Thinking about this a bit more I wonder if it’s a generational thing. I still feel I can relate, for want of a better word, to City as a club via the memories of standing frozen on the Kippax, having arranged an after match meeting point with my late Dad in case we got separated after the mental goal celebrations etc. This new “initiative“ disassociates me from the action on the pitch in a similar way to when I watch say the masters as a 20 handicap golfer. It’s still quite interesting but no gut feeling of involvement. I live in Fleetwood so may have to spend my dotage watching Fleetwood v Rochdale and others, guided by the wisdom of sir Joseph of Barton
