We all knew that when Umbro were replaced by Nike as the kit manufacturer that the design elements of the kit would suffer. To Umbro we were one of their higher profile clubs, alongside the England national side, and as such we benefited from a close working relationship. Who can forget the home shirt with the "soundwave" across the front? Ok, so personally I felt it was gimmicky and didn't much like it, but Umbro actually spent time and effort thinking that one through, they came down to the stadium and recorded the noise of the fans singing, they design a shirt which was absolutely unique to Manchester City. To Nike we are just one (and a not particularly important one) of many clubs they provide kits for, we aren't a priority, and as such the time, effort and thought process that goes into our kits will be far, far less. These new kits could belong to anyone, they just happen to have some, but not all, of the colours on them that are associated with Manchester City. There's nothing unique about them, I can guarantee you that there will be other, probably quite a few, clubs out there that Nike make kits for, that have the exact same design, just with a different scheme. I guess when you're trying to maximise your revenue you have to put certain things to one side, it's just a shame as Umbro and Manchester City seemed perfectly suited, Nike seem more like the kind of company the likes of Manchester United would cozy up to.

Some great thoughts here. At the time I wasn't a fan of the the 'soundwave' umbro kit, but you bring up a great point in that the shirt was unique to us and that it had been thought about by the designers. Nikes efforts (with the exception of our 3rd shirt last season) have been awful and If these new designs are confirmed then I'm afraid I will be going for another retro shirt next season.

I just cant get over how shit the new kits are!!!!

Don't buy them then pal..I haven't for nigh on 20yrs..That's how long ago I got bored of wearing my colours.
Overpriced rubbish. My lad loves his kits so I buy them for him but the standard of kit being made for city recently appears to be poor.

I don't care for the proposed new kits, and I'd also prefer us not to be involved with Nike, for a multitude of reasons, but if the choice is watching a wonderful team in average shirts, as we do now, to watching fucking awful teams in some lovely kits, as we did 20 years ago, I'm fairly sure which I'd choose.

Absolutely. You can't put a price on your principles.

It's a fucking shirt ....look on the news people are getting blown up in markets and your getting upset over a fucking shirt ????

Writing letters ????

Fuck me

Were the people still getting blown up in markets when you wrote your post?

Clothes maketh the man;I can't see us making the top four if we wear this kit.
You've got to feel good when you cross the line and part of this looking good.
Nike have got it all wrong, they don't get that we play in Cambridge blue and white shorts,we're a small cog in a big wheel now and there emphasis is on teams who sell more shirts.
Watch out next season we'll be wearing that table cloth effort the rags wore the other year.

We don't even know that these dodgy leaked mockups are anywhere near to what we will be getting yet, for all we know Nike could be busy talking with the club now thinking up an original classy blue and white kit that will rival those of Umbro. I doubt it, but at least wait and see before becoming enraged.

Not only that mate, but those lovely Umbro kits of yesteryear were a cracking fit, whereas these new Nike jobbies are far too tight.
Not that this has anything whatsoever to do with me gaining more weight than an American working in a cake shop.
