New Kit Deal - Under Armour?

Given the commercial prowess of the management at the club, I'll trust they are on top of things, especially any areas where they feel we are not being compensated accordingly.

Watch this space.

I still don't understand why anyone thinks we're going to get a new kit deal before the end of the current one. What incentive to Nike have to renegotiate? They've got an underpriced deal with one of the top clubs in the world. Why would they voluntarily pay more?

I imagine it depends on the terms of the existing contract. I don't think it's a given that you can just buy yourselves out, although I could be wrong.

Of course you can buy yourself out. The terms of the contract do not need to contain a buy out clause: everything is negotiable. The question is whether the cost of buying out would be worthwhile?

The agreement will be a 2 way Street. We do the business on the pitch and stay relevant all is good, but if we nosedive (like the reds) then Nike have the opportunity to renegotiate. If we continue our performances and exposure but the Nike tops don't sell in line with our trajectory, then it's Nike that are under performing and we will have the right to break away.
Before any deal is signed there will be agreements between the 2 parties on their performance in the agreement, under performances have consequences.

Tbf if Nike are forking out c £100m to Spurs and Chelsea in the premier league they may be quite happy to walk away.

I agree ,it must get to a point where Nike realise they arnt making their money back ,and so what if they have a high profile if they are losing money.
You would need to sell some shirts to get back £100m + each season

Isn't signing with Umbro how we ended up with Nike, when they took Umbro over?
Yep. Nike owned Umbro at the time although I think they've since sold it on, I think our kit deal was one of the assets they stripped before they sold it.

Haven't read the whole thread, could someone please just clarify something for me?

Do we have to stay with Nike for the remainder of our contract with them, or can we terminate it early?

£12m is fucking peanuts and it is costing us money being tied down to such a contract for so long, not least Nike's kits are fucking rank. Hope we fuck them off soon.

Of course we can terminate it. The question is how much it will cost and is it cost effective? There's no point paying Nike 12m a season to move to an 18m a season kit deal, however if it's 30m a season or above it may be worth our while, depending on what we think we'll be able to get in 2019.

How many shirts do we sell in comparison to Spurs and Chelsea? From a branding perspective, I think City represents a huge opportunity for every manufacturer given our style of football and squad. However, from memory we don't shift as many shirts as those clubs, which I would imagine is the main driver behind how much Nike et al would be willing to pay us.

I quite like the design of the home and away kits, but not a fan of the stencil approach that Nike seems to apply to most kits at the moment.
