New lease arrangement for COMS

There are a number of issues that were causing strain under the old agreement.

One of them I was told was the availability of cheap season tickets as the Council didn't want their revenues to be impacted by them.

In other words the council wanted to leech off City fans and the owners wanted to create affordability for all levels if fan.

interesting bit in yesterdays financial report was that season tickets were capped at 35k and there is now a waiting list. If this is the case the board must see the potential for expansion plus cheaper season cards.

MCC may have had an interest in City's ticketing receipts, but interest does not equal influence

-- Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:18 am --

I don't see the point in an expansion...we can't even fill the ground at the moment...what's the point in extending and having thousands of empty seats?
If we were to go on and win the premiership and the chumps league then have loads trying to get tickets fair enough...but Ifor one would rather have a full stadium every week rather than be rattling in one with all the empties.
Not in the Cups, but for the League games we're filling the ground with match-day tickets of £50

It's difficult to attract new supporters to the club when the capacity is limited. Premiership games are a closed shop with 35k seasoncard holders leaving 8k seats for casual fans who have to pay about £40 for a ticket. Add 15k to the capacity and you'd instantly get an extra 15k supporters. You're not going to go to a week-day game unless you're already in the habit of going to games

Even if we increase capacity i'd bet we don't lower ticket prices. That isn't a slight on our owners, it's just the way things are .

I think one of the main reasons for the expansion will be a lot more corporate boxes/hospitality - this will be the a cash cow for the future.
I agree with this completely and I've also heard Prestwich_Blue say that we lack corporate facilities on the scale of other clubs.

-- Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:27 am --

Of course it's the way things are. Due to the market rate of players' wages plus the City premium, and UEFA's FFP rules, we have to increase revenue. Lowering ticket prices and having more attendees will not accomplish that. I think prices will be kept around their current levels. I certainly don't think our owners have the intention of charging us peasants rag prices.

We do need to expand the stadium, mostly to expand our corparate facilities.

People seems to forget that already next season the number of corporate seats in the second tier will increase, so if we want to avoid squezing out the normal fan and replacing them with corporates we need a bigger stadium.

The fact that the club has capped the number of season tickets at 35000 is mostly about the club wanting more corporate and hospitality seats, something the club has to do in order to increse income in oreder to meet Platinis new "fair play" rule.

The Corporate pipe-dream again. The only empry seats at he Chelsea game were in the Corporate areas. You only get these people when you're in the Champions League and winning trophies, and even then the seats just get passed on to clients as "commission" or go unused. That happens for Utd games all the time at my workplace.

It is a stated desire of the board to make and keep football affordable for fans.

There will be a further roll out of affordable season tickets, special pricing packages and family tickets as the board of Manchester City want that to happen.

It just so happens that doing business the City way shows up the FFPR for what they are.

Imagine a situation where fans have to pay £80 a ticket instead of £20 and it can be shown to be Platini's rules that have caused it. I would lol ;-)

I honestly think if the pricing is right and there is (will be) success on the pitch the attendance will soar( 47k is still not bad), if you look at the German model for ticket prices it is a huge success, factor in extra programme sales, food sales and shirt sales etc this would generate more income than inflated season ticket prices in a smaller stadium.

Agreed.

Take Wigan for example. I don't normally buy any refreshements but having spent only £25 for my ticket i bought myself two beers and two pies totalling £10, so they got £35 off me. As daft as it sounds, had the ticket been £35 I might not have gone.

To extend the stadium would more than likely cost more than actually building a new stadium. Removing the roof and demolishing the concrete spirals just make it completely impractical!
