New MCFC Fanaticals Group. (Help Needed)

Good Luck With This Northern Boy.

I Do Think Though That The Ultras Thing Should Be Avoided. When I See English Ultras I Think 'Wannabes'. It Is Something I Would Expect From Stockport County Not City. In Fact I Would Laugh If Someone Like Everton Called Themselves Ultras.

This Capital Thing Is A Right Pain In The Arse BTW.

Best of luck to you Northen Boy, i applaud anyone who gets up off their backsides and does something positive. Maybe you could work alongside the Blue Alliance? We don't want to get like PSG and you both kicking off at a game some time soon because you have different views ;-)

Just one polite request though mate, please don't call it ultra's, i think that name in England is for small time clubs and please don't start chanting dale cavese like all english "ultra's" do, probably the worst song/tune in footballing history and is very small time.

Good luck.

Link to two short videos to show what can be achieved even on a small scale.

PMSL! The Barrow Ultras with smoke bombs!

I did like the masks that they had though. 1,000 Balotelli masks printed out would be piss funny if you were all sat together. All for getting the atmosphere going though so good luck with it.

Sounds a cracking idea NB, top marks for effort. Definitely up for anything to improve the atmosphere at the ground, Poznan and Aris were incredible.

This idea won't go anywhere until the fans who want to sing and go mad are allocated a section of the stadium. As it currently stands, you'll be split up all over the stadium and unfortunately seated with people who don't want to join in.

They need to build a kop with people packed in tightly. The eastlands bowl is too cosy, with large gaps between the seats.

I just don't think it's in the persona of the English fan to act like our continental cousins. Not sure why that is, could be the stiff upper lip thing the Yanks accuse us of, but there is definitely a more reserved approach to being a British football fan than a Turkish one, Spanish one et al. I think that is why it doesn't work as well as it does abroad. There are pockets of them, yes, but like the Curva Sud for example in the Stadio Olympico, I don't think it will ever be like that because we as Brits are generally just more reserved as people.

You could say the same about the Germans, they're a north European people pretty similar to the English, and south European fan culture caught on there.

The reasons it won't here (and I agree it won't) are more to do with all-seater stadia and lack of alcohol in grounds.
Great Point Well Made, And I Understand Your Point About All Seater Stadiums But I Have Faith It Can Be Resolved With Hard Work And Correct Planning.

*Project Update
Plans Are Well Underway For The First Game Of The Season Pre Game Meet-Up,
We're Pleased To Say We've Managed To Speak With The "Eastlands Bar" And Both Parties Are Impressed With Each Others Stance, We Are Having A Formal Meeting This Coming Monday To Discuss Final Details.
We Will Use The Eastlands Bar To,
• Display Latest Banners (Hope To Have Five On Display For Opening Game)
• Meet New Faces Of Hardcore Blues Who Want To Get Involved With This Project
• DJ's Will Be Spinning The Finest Music Available Anywhere On A Matchday (Madchester, Indie, Northern Soul, Motown, House, Disco, Etc)
• Generally Create A Great Vibe For Like Minded Blues Craving An Alternative Matchday Experience.

The Bar Itself Has alot To Offer Including
• Outdoor Area With Music
• Hot Food Stands
• 6 Pint Beer Pullers For Quick Service

It Has All The Making For A Suberb Opening Doo. This Project Is Only Going To Work If The Numbers Are Great Enough, It's As Simple As That, We'll Be Putting In A Lot Of Hard Work In The Next Few Weeks To Ensure The Swansea Game Meet Up Is A Success And We Hope To See Many Of You Lot Down There.
I Would Also Like To Use This Post Again To Plead With People To Help Design The Banner Ideas Posted In The Original Post, Once We Have The Design We Can Almost Instantly Create The Physical Banner.

The Naming Of The Group Is Still Up In The Air So We'd Love To Hear Ideas For That,
Stand Out Name So Far Is "Citizens Mancuina" (Abbreviation "CM11")

I Think Thats It For Now,
Thanks Again For Your Time.

May i ask why such a jump to 'get in bed with eastlands bar?' No disrespect to Mickeys bar - we go there regularly and enjoy the atmosphere. If your post was intending to seek opinion / gain ideas / get like minded blues together i feel you may have made a mistake making such a committment before your group has formed or discussed such matters.
BA has made great progress last year with the same stated aims as yourselves, some reference to BA is therefore important if nothing else to set yourself apart. In the past the fanzine culture exploded with similar references and was one of the reasons city had so many fanzines back in the day - with great sucess i shud add.
Goodluck anyway

Wow, what a great idea!

Hasn't anyone else come up with this before?!

Thanks to all that came to the Blue Alliance/City Centre Blues meeting on Sunday. Next meeting is the day before the Swansea game, and there is still time to sign up.

love the idea OP. don't see anything wrong with the word Ultras either. people know what Ultra's are. They are more about the spectacle. Hang banners, organize large displays in the stadium, etc...

-- Tue Jul 26, 2011 9:43 am --

p.s. my team Olympiakos have such a group and put on large displays behind the net for important matches...

Excellent idea, good luck with it.

My only input, for what it's worth, is regarding the "Citizens Mancunia" name. The moniker "Mancunia" has been used to death by the Rags with their banners and t-shirts. I'd suggest it's best to avoid any reference to them or anything that will give them the slightest angle to take the piss.
Drop the Mancunia, "The Citizens" will suffice.

Also, as previously mentioned, why don't you join The Blue Alliance rather than setting up another group who are going to do exactly the same thing under a different name?
The ethos would be a lot stronger if you pooled your resources and energy to create something brilliant rather than creating something, which is half as good, twice.

Someone mentioned on another thread, the expressioni Mancini uses "This is Football".

The poster said City's motto should be "MCFC - This Is Football.

Personally, I think this would make a superb banner for the stadium. Good luck with your venture.

for the record the blue alliance is now an official supporters club and has over 60 paid members, i'm currently working out in spain and not relly been involved this season, but the last 2 meetings have apparantly gone really well and allocations, pub meet-ups and travel are sorted for the next few games.

for the past 2 years we have met with the club and discussed how to improve the atmosphere whilst getting a few banners made (examples below) & working to make the BA a supporters club. Fair enough if you want to do your own thing, however would be great to have those involved with this fanatics group at the next meeting. the more the merrier and all that.

Easy Now,
Myself And A Few Lads Are Looking To Start A New Fanatical Group At City. Here's Some Background Info For People Interested,
•This Group Is Strictly Non-Violent & Anti-Fascist, Any Signs Of Either And People Will Be Shown The Door.
•We Aim To Create Displays Reminiscent Of European Terraces. (Some People Might Remember Aris At Home), It Is Hugely Colour Orientated I.E, Colourful Flags, Banners, Scarves.
•We Aim To Have A Place To Meet On Matchdays Where We Can Display Latest Banners, Commute With New Ideas, Collect Donations For New Banners, Listen To Top Music, And Generally Create A Great Matchday Experince.
•Majority Of Banners Will All Be Self Made (Sheets, Paint, Projecter), Therefore Financially This Is Very Accessable.
•We Hope To Gain A Good Relationship With The Club, Therefore All Ground Rules And Policys Will Be Strictly Followed And Run By The Club First. (Pyrotechnics Will Not Be Tolerated)

Lower League Teams Such As "Barrow AFC" Have A Group Like This, And Prove Just How Easy It Can Be Done. This New Group Will Welcome Everyone With Passion For This Great Club, All Ages, All Backgrounds, Fans New & Old.
We Already Have Some Great Ideas In The Pipeline And Hope To Have Some On Display For The First Game.
Hopefully People Who Like The Sound Of This Project Will Use The Thread To Pass On Ideas And Elaborate On Our Standing Ideas, Also Help To Create The Ideas We Have With The Use Of Photoshop And Other Computer Programmes (Shout Out To 100% Manc).

A Few Basic Ideas.
•Blue Marmite Label In The Style Of Andy Warhol With The Word Marmite Substituted For The Word "Balotelli".
•Stencilised Version Of The Iconic Dickov 99 Celebration With The Word "Saviour" Underneath
•Vimto Logo With The "Vimto" Changed To "MCFC"
•The Boddingtons Bitter Logo That Was Floting Around Here That Incorporated "Manchester City, Cream Of Manchester"

Evidently The Group Will Be Incorporating The Idea Of Our Beloved Football Club With Our Beloved City, And Hopes To Bring People Together.
Any Feedback On This Thread Would Be Hugely Appreciated And Feel Free To PM Myself With Any Questions Or Queries, Thanks For Reading, And Lets Hope This Is The Start Of Something Special,
NorthernBoy.

If you do this alone you'll find, like Bluewatch, Blue REbels and the likes, you wont get anywhere. If you join up with The Blue Alliance you've a chance. They're already doing what you intend to do.

Your Spot On Mate, I'd Love To Be Named "Ultras MCFC" But I Have The Fear People Will Be Put Off And The Club Might Distance Themselves From Us. The Situation Is Very Similar To The Struggle A "Traditional Skinhead" Is Faced With, When A Person With Very Little Knowledge On The Subject Hears The Term "Skinhead" They Immediatly Think Nazi, Racist Etc, In Reality They Couldn't Be More Wrong. I Want Everyone To Feel Welcome And Dont Wat To Put Anybody Off, Not RUling Anything Out Yet Tho.
Indeed! Skinheads were nu-school mods weren't they? At first they were associated with Northern Soul, but later they listened to underground Reggae, Ragga and soul Reggae. They were about fashion and music. They weren't about violence and racism. Again, middle class know-nothings who weren't ever going to (and never will!) be cool enough to understand subcultures, lost understanding (like they have with Ultras) of what the Skinheads sub culure was. Even to this day, you ask someone what a Skinhead is and they'd imagine a Swastika and anti-foreign marches.

They where about aggro though..as I recall it, and the tribal atmosphere at football attracted both rightwing extremists and the local bootboys.
At some point there was a hybrid skinhead that forgot his roots and adopted a rightwing ideology..Which was kind of sad
Of course! Most working class subcultures have an element of aggro. Scuttlers, Teddy Boys, Rockers, Mods, Skinheads, Casuals... all working class lads who want to separate themselves from the unclassy, uncool, disheveled, Chav element of their class; yet in their hearts they are still poor working class lads who can all handle themselves. But it's a shame they get branded in certain ways - WRONGLY - like the Skinheads did!

And "Mancunia" is a post-era made up word. "Mancunia" has never been the name of Manchester. Mamucium, Mancunium, Mancæster.. have all been the names of our great city, Mancunia has never!

I like the name "The Citizens". I've always liked that as or nickname!

"Mancunia"?!?!?!

It's one of the most laughable things about those pricks over the road.

Don't adopt that fucking tag, which noone from Manchester would ever entertain. Just don't.

this seems like a good idea, having been to most of the europa league away games iv always wanted an atmosphere like that at our stadium.

i think with our rise up the table and our attack on the champions league that this atmosphere would be a great idea. good look with this, i hope a lot more embrace this idea.

Good on ya NorthernBoy for starting this. Think it's great to see people stand up and do something themselves.

As someone said earlier ... No macho stuff. Just make it a better day/night out for everyone (opposition included).

I'd like us to be different. One way might be for us .... here's my wacky idea .... to show support towards our opposition as well as our own before and during the game. For example, give the "fanatical members" a songsheet to learn each week that contains a couple of oppostion songs and a couple of our own. also tell them to bring two tshirts/scarves/whatever. One Blue&white and one the colour of the opposition. Then before the game and at certain points of the game sing both set of songs and wave the appropriate scarf/flag.

In general I'd love to see us try to get the opposition fans loving coming to our place. Let the media hate us, let the armchair opposition fans hate us, let the hardmen everywhere hate us, let Platini and the politicians hate us,... but let's have anyone entering the Ethihad Stadium love us.

Think cuddly toys. :-)
