New striker?

what rules are those?

The following is taken from the FA website.

Post Brexit, clubs will not be able to sign players freely from the EU. Players from EU countries who want to play in the Premier League or EFL will be required to gain a GBE, like all other overseas players without the right to work in the UK.

The GBE will operate a points-based system, where points are scored for senior and talented young players based on:
• Senior and youth international appearances
• Quality of the selling club, based on the league they are in, league position and progression in continental competition
• Club appearances, based on domestic league and continental competition minutes

Players accumulating the requisite amount of points will earn a GBE automatically, while players just below the threshold may be considered for a GBE by an Exceptions Panel.

The system meets the joint objectives of the Premier League, EFL and the FA allowing access to the best players and future talent for clubs, as well as safeguarding England teams, by ensuring opportunities for homegrown players.

In the Premier League, the number of overseas U21 players a club can sign will be limited to three in the January transfer window and six per season moving forwards. This enables the recruitment of the best players from around the world to train and play together with homegrown talent. Under FIFA’s rules, the UK’s exit from the EU will also mean that clubs will not be able to sign players from overseas until they are 18

Prepare how? if there wasn't one good enough. Delap may or may not be good enough I don't know but even if he is he is nowhwre near ready from the bits I read. Braaf doesn't seem to have the temprement to make it with us. Others like Doyle and Plamer might well, which is probably why they seem to be getting opportunities Braaf doesn't.
Yes I agree Braaf has a temper issue and so did Sancho if I am not mistaken.

But what I mean is we should be attracting young talent and then pushing them through the ranks. Chelsea and Man United succeeded with this and mostly Chelsea had to do it because of the transfer ban and it actually worked better for them. Liverpool are also adding players from the Academy and so are many other clubs

All I am asking is why are we not good at producing first team talent from the academy at the same rate as other clubs?

Thanks for that info. I may be missing something, but how will that affect us if we are shopping for either proven talent or huge potential?

It may not but it will mean teams will have to increase their use of local talent in their academies. For a start the Braafs and Eric Garcias could not have come to us.
Players like Suarez could not have gone to PSV or Fabregas to Arsenal at the age they did.
It may not affect the bigger premier clubs but the Burnley of this world would have to be buying top quality players who have the necessary qualifying points.
The probability is that they can't afford them.
Someone else on the forum may be able to give a better understanding.
Seemingly La Liga will now only allow 3 non EU players in a match day squad.

Apart from the obvious ones ( Haaland & Mbappe) I don't know who can improve the starting Eleven.

I say lets rely on Jesus this season and see if he is good enough to replace Sergio or not.

I'd say he's had plenty of chances now and never quite filled in. He's strongest as a linkup player for me. Not for want of trying, the guy has a great attitude and I like watching him play.

Id rather have Son personally as I think he fits our system better....more able to play across the front 3.
I get what you are saying but we have 3/4 players that can currently play in numerous attacking positions. What we don’t have is a 30 goal forward.

Newcastle being linked with Alan Velasco, young Argentinian at independante labelled the next Aguero. I know nothing of him though, but seems a fee of £22m plus is required.
More like the Argentine Gabriel Jesus than Aguero.

Darwin nunez is an intriguing player. Pace, power, work rate & height all perfect. Very good skill and finishing, a little inconsistent but has all the raw ingredients to be a superstar. Not sure what benfica would ask for but for €60m or under he has everything to be the next big thing.
Same with Marcus thuram, but Marcus can play on the wings as well and is more creative.

Might be a little left field but do we need an out and out striker? All the best teams who win trophies don’t just rely on one striker but instead win most of their games with players scoring from multiple positions.? Rag did it for years winning the prem.
