New striker?

Good player, not a prolific scorer though.
Not in comparison to Haaland or Mbappe, no, but he’s not going to cost over 100 million either. I’m looking for someone that can fill the void this season.

He’s filled out physically at Nice and can now take the ball into feet and link players more than he did at Ajax. He’s also a player who is cool in front of goal and naturally gravitates into goalscoring positions. He’s also comfortable finishing with both feet and takes penalties.

Is he as good a striker as Kane? No. Is he better as a natural striker than our current alternatives? Yes.

Just give Nice a call and get Dolberg.
My favourite no name player at the moment. Well, you know what I mean by that hopefully.

But yeah this kids a top player in the making. Can see him getting a PL move soon outside the Big Six and making some waves

Yes, I understand fully. I think some have become so obsessed with marquee players that they‘ve forgotten what we do best: taking already good players and making them even better.

He had Covid and then an appendectomy last season, but he looks much fitter now and was very strong against Lille and Marseille . Reports from France are that he’s keen on a move to England (reuniting with Vieira at Palace was mooted yet nothing has happened), but even if he stays at Nice this season, I think he’ll thrive under Galtier.

I'm a recent fan, but I've wondered how effective Foden or KDB would be as a striker.

And, I'd prefer to see Delap get some first team minutes at the position.
Fully agree delap is my first choice which does seem a bit crazy. Foden my 2nd choice striker. Just shows you how little we really have in that position.

I would prefer Kev more central in midfield than upfront. We need his creativity.

Sometimes this is the type of player to go for but for thinking long term.

At this moment we need someone ready to go straight in , and perform in the big games.

If Ederson were injured, nobody, I hope, would countenance having Slicker as the first choice goalkeeper- I know we have other replacements- but that’s pretty much where we would be at with Delap as striker.

Martinez for me, he’d fit like a glove and while he wouldn’t get the number of goals that a Kane or Ronaldo would, he wouldn’t require the team to be made bespoke to his needs and his fit into the team dynamic would, I think, bring goals for him without diminishing the goal contribution of others.
I’d be well chuffed if we rolled the blue carpet out for him.

To be fair. City appear not have acted well during this saga. If we had an alternative to Kane is not known but presumably we will find out very soon. In my opinion there is no one at present in the EDS or accadamy Who will actually make it with a top PL or top European side now or in the future. Some of them (like Delap) May make a championship team or bottom half PL team. We are a club who is very good at signing youngsters and improving them to sell on for £10/20M but to expect any of them to excel at this point of their career in a top of the table side is folly and may well result in ruining their futures as a result. Unfortunately other sideS (especially Chelsea) have beaten us this window and with Pep signalling his leaving in 2022 it will be difficult to attract any top player without paying “over the odds”.
Week in and week out we produce a glut of chances but do not put many of them away. To buy players who will help to produce even more chances without a top goal scorer will be, to my mind, throwing money away. Time will tell of course.

Pep ‘signalling’ he’s leaving?

He’s taking about what he might do next after completing his extended contract but you talk about it as if he’s jumping ship.
You should give your head a wobble mate because there was no indication and indeed very little chance that he’d stay anywhere for more than 5 years and none whatsoever that he’d stay here for as many as 7.
We have indeed got more from Pep than others have and should think ourselves blessed.

And as for your perverse notion that a club as successful as ours will be struggling to attract players in the post Pep era, well it doesn’t even deserve comment.

Thanks for your comments and your opinions. You are welcome to them as I hope you agree that I am welcome to mine, even if we don’t agree. Ps I won’t take your advice to “give my head a wobble” but thanks for it.

Not sure you should be so dismissive of our youth prospects. Chelsea are a couple of years ahead of us in their development of young players, and they had James, Mount, Abraham, Gilmour, and Hudson-Odoi in and around the teams that defeated us three times last season. Not all of our players will make it to the very top, true, but some will.

I agree on your point about creators deserving a natural finisher.

Is that 'have acted well' or 'not acted well'? If not, then perhaps you expand on why you think that?

If you really think that about City's academy then I can only presume you've never watched them and so isn't worth answering.

Pep is here until at least 2023, not 2022.
