Hi Fellow Mooners

The disco clan are in the market for a new telebox preferably not a coin op one.

We have a budget of around £750 with a max screen size of 70”

For the record we are Costco card holders and I know they are normally excellent customer service wise

Advice greatly welcomed.

We truly live in glorious times.

What use are you looking to get out of it?

Worth noting Samsung TVs can stream games without need for any other device.

For £750 max you're not going to get a great quality picture at 70". Which would you prefer, a great picture or just a big screen? What size would you go down to? What about sound? Do you have a decent soundbar or are you relying on the built in sound (not always a good thing).

Are you plugging in a VM or Sky box or using Freeview/Freesat with catch-up apps?

Not going to beusing any external boxes, we have a decent enough sound bar, as for size 70 was absolutely max so under that is not a problem probably down to 55 at a pinch, it’s not going to be used for watching much sport on.

In that case the TCL Roku TVs are decent (relatively) cheap options as you can get the QLED 65" for £600 on Amazon at least. They also do a £500 LED 65" version. The Roku platform looks to be pretty good as a clunky interface just frustrates.

TVs tend to go 65" then 77". It comes down to personal preference but unless your room is big it will dominate it. Our room lounge is 7m x 6m and 65" feels ok but still pretty big.

If you want the full home cinema experience then you do need a TV that is around the sweet spot for your viewing distance, but I would recommend you consider all viewing positions rather than just the furthest one.

So around 65" you're not gonna get OLED or micro LED, so go for TVs with Full Array Local dimming over everything else as this will give you better HDR which you will notice far more than any other feature.

At 65" you're going to be looking at either Hisense...

I posted the M&S link as they currently have a £50 discount code for Hisense TVs

or the TCL ones similar to those posted above by @Centurions.

At 55" if you can stretch an extra £49 one of these would be good assuming you dont have lots of ambient light directly on the screen and its OLED...

Mainly because the ideal size for distance could not be achieved via cathode ray tubes.
Modern screens sizes have simply adjusted to be correct.
I think it's more to do with having to have living rooms 4x our present sizes in order to fit in a 70" cathode ray tube TV. Not to mention a forklift truck to put it in position and removable walls as the doors would be too small.
