New York City FC Thread (new away kit P245)

Re: New York City

According to this link we may after all be buying into the MLS and getting the 20th franchise... wonder if our friendly at the Yankee Stadium will see an announcement?

I see it confirms the speculation I had heard about Orlando as a potential future MLS location.

If the New York City FC comes about, it will set up a Blue vs Red "derby" in NY, just like Manchester! maybe those die hard Yankee fans, err, I mean United fans, will come out of the woodwork?!!

There´s a slight difference between say ADUG (or similar) owning a franchise and City owning one.
But in the US it´s common that sports/entertainment companies own several teams in different sports.

Re: New York City

I would love for this to happen. It would make the off season a little more interesting then hitting F5 in the transfer forum

hey how does this benefit the club? what will this mean for city or it the just another club bought by Sheik mansour?

I'm slightly baffled by what this purchase, if it was to happen means?

thanks

When the original story broke, I believe one of the highlights would be an easily accessible way to loan players out and get them playing time in an increasingly competitive league. Also, just putting the City "brand" out there in an ever increasing football market could have significant financial gain through merchandise. More kits to sell, etc, etc.

Re: New York City

This could be a very clever move. Siding with a global city (THE global city many would say) in a country where football has been steadily growing for the last 20 years. The one thing MLS has lacked is some real support, it's still a bit-part league. If you consider how football started in south America for instance - it was the English who went out there and showed them football.

There is a 20+ million catchment area. And let's remember 'New York' Red Bulls are not actually in New York so it could be an interesting move. Look's nailed on if you consider a new team will be announced in the next 4-6 and City just happen to be in New York next month.

Re: New York City

I think it would be a great idea for the club. Its an ever expanding league and I think at least some of our academy players could really flourish there, and the attendances/atomsphere seems great. Oh please city let this happen

.

Players from the reserves can be loaned out to develop, players from America can be signed and looked at and if good enough transfered to City.

We've seen different people own different clubs in Europe and they now cant do that (or compete together in Europe) so this is a new option available.

Re: New York City

Would be interesting watching Another club in the summer.

I could see the likes of Kolo Toure and others when no longer needed by City, going over to the states and playing there... like Thierry Henry and others have done when they come to the end of their careers.
