New York City FC

I've got to admit. Garber was right. Putting another franchise in NY was a great idea. The NYCFC has a whole identity with the town that The Red Bulls don't. People like the fact that the team isn't in New Jersey. The same ones complain that they have to see The Jets and The Giants across the Hudson River.

Was at the NYCFC / Revs game tonight in Foxboro. Pretty entertaining stuff and a winning goal from Super Frankie although it went in off what seems to be his thigh or one of his balls - Shaun Goater stylee...;)
They played some nice stuff. Frankie is getting fitter and Pirlo had lots of room to spray it around tonight. The Revs were strangely lethargic. NY played some nice one-touch stuff with Paddy V. very active and engaged on the sideline. But NY still have a suspect defence and the goalie is an accident waiting to happen. It may be their undoing but going forward, they are pretty damn good.

Disappointed to miss the game as flying to Boston in the morning for a week.
Will be going to the Revs v Columbus on Saturday.

Another victory last night keeps them top of the Eastern Conference & third in the Supporters' Shield. Delighted for Vieira, really looks as though he's turned them around after a very poor start to the season. Jack Harrison seems to be the missing piece for them because since he returned from injury they've really picked up.

What's the overall impression of Vieira over there now? It didn't look too good in the beginning, but 3 clean sheets in a row, 4 wins, top of the conference... starting to look up for him.

He's pretty popular with the fans - his playing record meant he was always popular honestly, and probably helped him avoid most of the criticism which only just started to come his way at their worst point, but now they are really buying into his style.

That said, he still picks up the occasional criticism for his Pellegrini-like tendency to sit cross-armed in the dugout for the majority of each match while his opponent is there gesticulating passionately on the sideline, plus for his perpetual favouring of Saunders over the far more popular (and less haphazard) Johansen.

Two important games coming up for them. Montreal on 17th July and Red bulls on 24th July. Win those two and the league is looking pretty rosy for them.
MLS has a playoff so even if they got six points, it would just help secure a playoff spot in a few months, total point accumulation does not win the league in MLS. But they are playing very well.

Yes and no. They do award a trophy for winning the league, they just view it as being far less important than winning the play-offs.

Also, league place determines whether you get into their version of the Champions League, so there's that too.
