New York City FC

What was the 'chicken bucket' thing all about I went see them play the Chicago Fire in April and they were chanting it. It's good to see New York City doing well and the locals embracing it. They seem to get pretty rowdy as fans in the bleachers section of Yankee stadium. The fans in the bars outside were a good bunch too, not a bad starting point considering the franchise is less than two years old.

I hope Paddy Viera can get them going deep into the play offs. More football to watch over the summer months.
I'm not entirely sure but I believe it has to do with a special ridiculous concession at Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is known for its bad food fare (the beer is worse) and one is this huge bucket of fries with large chicken strips. It's just like a cheapo bucket of KFC, I believe. Well the fans started keeping the buckets as souvenirs and making chants based on them....

"Why come to the games?"

"Because we've got Chicken Bucket!"

Honestly, I think CFG lucked out with the NYFC franchise. It was the perfect timing really. If they'd have started a year later, there's no way the other owners would have wanted a second NY team without a stadium (because of the Chivas fiasco.) And they get top billing at the YS because the Yankees SUCK. Viera and Co are right now the most competative team in the biggest media market in the world. Most of their games are broadcast on American TV and in Prime Time.

The fans think that in five years they'll be looking at a stadium deal (Once that idiot mayor is out.) Since everybody identifies the Red Bulls with Jersey, NYCFC could be come the most identifiable soccer club in the USA. They won't be Man City-lite by any stretch.

Be interesting where they put a new stadium hopefully on the right side of the Hudson. The cost won't be cheap though I was stunned to hear Yankee stadium cost more than Wembley to build and its not even comparable in size.

That's why they partnered with Yankees who have Randy Levine on their payroll. He's got the political connections up the Wazoo that built that stadium. He's also one of the biggest scumbags in organized sports. I hate even mentioning that hill troll's name.

You say that, but they do frequently still complain about their coverage. It was only very recently that they first had a game with studio prematch analysis - most of their broadcasts are like the Sky Sports fare, with the broadcast starting when the teams walk out onto the pitch and ending shortly after full time. Plus they've struggled with billing, with their games frequently pushed back because "higher profile" broadcasts are overrunning, including such world classics recently as drag racing and college baseball. The Yankees frequently get top billing to them, too, forcing them onto lower-case channels.

There's all the issue they have with blackouts, where if the game is being played at home it is often prevented from being shown on the national services such as MLS Live and FoxSportsGo so that their broadcast doesn't interfere with regional broadcasts which sometimes don't even happen. When that occurs, the fans who can't make the game are, ironically, usually forced to watch a stream of Sky Sports' coverage of the match.

Oh, and then there was this...

You're sharing a stadium with the most prestigious franchise in American sports. Whose owner is 1.) A clueless payroll obsessed elitist 2.) and will have fans leaving in droves the more they lose 3.) aren't going to be competing with you in popularity for maybe for the next few years...... there some positive aspects to being the best thing on the menu.

I realize that the coverage sucks. And the YES/Comcast war is making it worse. But lots of local teams have to deal with shitty deals that pit channels against providers. That's just the way it is with so much content out there. Soccer is new to the table and hopefully they will work out better deals.

P.S. Fatty Francesca and football are not a good combination.

Who would have thought that the CFG had a good plan in mind all along....

People underestimated that the CFG consists of some of the best businessmen in the world. Nothing us done by chance.

Glad to see NYCFC doing well!

I wonder if we can get WIlly over there next year, the team as a whole though isn't too bad. I think it has definitely helped that Villa, Lampard and Pirlo all came over after playing a very high level. Pirlo and Villa just after being in a CL final and Lampard playing in the prem and scoring goals.

I like Harrison, be interesting to see if we ever see him over in Manchester for Pep to have a look at.

These guys know the score they did an interview with the guy who started the whole chicken bucket chant... sounds like far too much food to be having out and about though lol.

No, I get you. I know full well about all these factors. I was just responding to the way the previous message made it sound like nycfc was getting the lion's share of sporting recognition in nyc, where the truth is it's still largely being ignored by the establishment, and to a large extent walked all over by their Yankee co-owners.
