New York City FC

Just saw the highlights of the match against the Revolution yesterday. Not a huge MLS guy, but 4 points atop the East. Not bad.

I am developing a genuine soft spot for them. Although the NYCFC forum appears to have a large quantity of divs as members.

In fairness to them, the (British, I think, but I wasn't watching that stream) commentator on FoxSportsGo confused the matter considerably by declaring on live TV that DOGSO outside of the area was a penalty offence. It's not entirely surprising that that then confused some of them into believing him.

I'm not going to deny that the members of the forum, being American, have mindsets we would struggle to agree with - the way they view success as imperative to their continued support for instance, and the way they can be very quick on occasion to leap to conclusions we might not normally make do easily - but having been a member of both forums I am yet to be persuaded that the antipathy this forum shows for that one is anything other than a reaction to the backlash on that forum against the many, many Bluemoon members who went over to their forum and tried to tel them straight up and to their face that their club exists for no other purpose than to service our own, and that they should like it or go and find another club to support. I'm really not sure what kind of reaction people were expecting to having that kind of arrogance rubbed in their faces on their own forum.

You know which poster I'm referring to the worlds greatest Liverpool fan who goes out of his way to bully intimidate and insult posters American and English on a daily basis, hates all things Mancunian but posts in a totally different manner on this forum

He's pretty popular with the fans - his playing record meant he was always popular honestly, and probably helped him avoid most of the criticism which only just started to come his way at their worst point, but now they are really buying into his style.

That said, he still picks up the occasional criticism for his Pellegrini-like tendency to sit cross-armed in the dugout for the majority of each match while his opponent is there gesticulating passionately on the sideline, plus for his perpetual favouring of Saunders over the far more popular (and less haphazard) Johansen.

Well I can only speak from the other night but it was far from sitting in the dugout that Vieira was doing. I fact, I posted a picture on FB saying "Paddy V directing traffic" as he seemed to be on his feet most of the time. But as I say, that was only one night. I will say however that NYCFC seem to be getting their act together, especially with the "big three" seeming to be fit. Frankie and Villa are of course great but damn, Pirlo is a joy to watch. He has come to terms with how the MLS works now and is beginning to pass them all to death. He can still bring it.
Agree absolutely about Saunders though. Accident waiting to happen.

I'm really proud of the NYCFC fan base in general. The start of the franchise was really tacky but they developed a culture really quickly. They genuinely have an identity and a style that separates them from their contemporaries in NJ. The whole "Chicken Bucket" rally thing is cool. And referring to hardcover fans as "Pigeons" is very New Yawk. MLS fans were just vicious to them but they've persevered. Might not be a popular notion but they do have some similarities to us.

delighted to see that things have improved and they are starting to gel now! hopefully they are now appreciating what the owner and khaldoon have done for them and bringing talent like villa, pirlo and lampard to start their new club is pretty special!

What was the 'chicken bucket' thing all about I went see them play the Chicago Fire in April and they were chanting it. It's good to see New York City doing well and the locals embracing it. They seem to get pretty rowdy as fans in the bleachers section of Yankee stadium. The fans in the bars outside were a good bunch too, not a bad starting point considering the franchise is less than two years old.

I hope Paddy Viera can get them going deep into the play offs. More football to watch over the summer months.
