Just a reminder that Gomez was in the team of the tournament for the under 21s Euros in the summer. He would start in most premier league teams. He isn't up to the level of our first team i.e. the best team in the world, but he is a quality player. Personally I was impressed with his performance last night considering he played 3 different positions.

How was this game on Gomez? He actually played a decent match. So many people talk out of their asses anymore with zero idea of what they are actually watching. They lock into a narrative and then mindlessly repeat the same shit over and over again whether it conforms with reality or not...

I don't care if I'm the only one, but I'm disappointed we lost, and are out of the cup. I don't see it as a blessing in disguise, or good in the long run, I don't see it as small fry or a cup we are better off not competing for, or any of the other mighty shouts. It is another trophy at the end of the day, one a fair portion of this squad hasn't won yet, gets the hunger on if won at that stage of the season. And more importantly, it is a great chance to play young and squad players and give them experience. So no, I'm not ambivalent about it, never mind happy.

All that said, it is football, Newcastle probably deserved it more than we did in that second half, it is a loss I accept and move on. Hopefully they turn the disappointment into more focus and drive.

We weren't getting past the QF round with an academy team. You do understand that? Actually when the dates for the Club World Cup were announced and they were in direct conflict with the League Cup QFs with rescheduling not being offered we would have been better off deciding not to participate in the League Cup at all. In fact, if we win the CL again this Spring and a similar conflict presents itself next Fall I would not be one bit surprised if that's what the club decide to do...

The last two matches have seen managers send their teams out to try and kick our players off the pitch without any action being taken by the officials. This, coupled with the ongong cheating by teams feigning injury to try and disrupt play (especially Arsenal) are the tactics being used against us. It will be interesting to see what happens at Wolves. Don't expect anyone in the media to report this though.

We have enough to beat Wolves however they play and however the match is refereed, imo. The one to watch will be Arsenal. I can guarantee now the following will happen: referee announces a higher bar for physicality, city players get fouled regularly including multiple times by the same players, first yellow card to a City player, Haaland wrestled to the ground in open play and at set pieces and nothing given / no cards. Are we strong enough to beat an Arsenal team under those conditions? Maybe. Will it happen? Waits to be seen.

Not sure if the managers have deliberately sent out players to kick us off the pitch.
More like refs have allowed it.
Joelinton was getting stuck in for a good part of the match before he was eventually booked.
A weak referee eventually booked a Newcastle player for kicking the ball away and Akanji for dissent.
I think Forest had 8 players booked against us but referee should take more authoritative action early on to stop it getting out of hand.

Perhaps not Howe but I am sure Steve Cooper sent his players out to rough us up and that's why the bookings were rotated between different players. Ferguson did it for years at United, most famously in that Arsenal match. The pundits laugh and joke about "old school tactics" but I am old enough to remember the "dirty Leeds" of the 60s/70s. I just call it cheating. These sort of tactics (along with hooliganism) almost killed Eng lish football in the late 70s and 80s. I agree the referee was weak though. Let's see what Wolves do tomorrow and if they will be allowed a free ride.

I’d also prefer to go out now with a 1:0 loss against Newcastle, rather than the U21’s getting hammered like Liverpool did, when they were forced to field a youth team against Villa a few year back.
