I wasnt.

My initial comments were to do with the great myth that the ‘geordie nation’ support through thick n thin. They dont.

Also quiet as a mouse on saturday

the media are lazy as fk..keep going on about amazing travelling support sell out their aways etc. Loads of prem clubs do it's not unusual. Virtually impossible to get a City txt away. Also no media acknowledgement for our huge away support all over Europe...Athens..friendly...thousands of blues there, just glossed over as it doesn't suit the media narrative. I like calling them out as it discredits as football journalists, not knowing or researching the facts - makes for a very poor journalist in my eyes. We should take this line as it should really hurt some of these lazy journo's ..questioning their ability to research and understand facts.

These youngsters then can't start slinging ''plastic'' at us ..which they do...two sides of the coin....We always turned up - they need telling if they start that plastic shite

Was invitational as well, didn't really have to qualify - did Birmingham City play in it as well...to me its like the old Texaco Cup
 
Slagging off a club’s support because of crowds in the 80s is a bit unfair.

Everybody’s crowds were poor in the 80s. Can’t be arsed looking up averages but 15,000- 18,000 were normal Maine Road attendances in the mid/ late 80s and anything over 20,000 was reserved for a big game.

Fans are similar, City always sell out away, and have had amazing crowds for dcades...looking at where we were in the attendence table amazes me. even with pierce and the 10 or 13 goal home season! Of course we have always been right up there since professional football began, Manchester is a football mad city after all. Media will tell you only Liverpool and Newcastle deserve that acolade..thats what annoys people...not the fans....its he sycophantic narrative to create some sort of unique culture to keep the media pigs noses in troughs...its storey they are mythically creating after all.. Just winds up most loyal match goers up nd down the country

Was invitational at the onset, but later was based on league position, although wasn’t always the highest placed teams, as there was a ‘one team per City’ rule. Hence Newcastle got in despite finishing 9th.
