Newcastle (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Forest more so because the title was in our own hands and we bottled the gane . Everton was bad aswell but Tbf to Brentford they came and did a number on us
What do you mean “bottled the game”. The team played well but did not take their chances. Nothing to do with bottling - we played well but not well enough as it turned out

He needs to retire from international football he was practically invisible in the World Cup , his chance of glory with Belgium has gone , if he’s not careful his domestic career will follow the same path , time catches up with everyone.
I agree and have been worried for a while. Quite simply he’s been overplayed and I can recall at least 3 periods of weeks out with injury during his time with us.
It has on the whole been glorious with KDB and I sincerely hope his game time can be managed to keep him going for a year or two

And has been for a while, sadly.

I keep saying it, he's peaked. Will always conjure up a moment of true brilliance, hopefully as our ultimate, big game player, but all the games of the last couple of years have caught up with him.

We have to use him carefully and hopefully he can recharge his batteries this summer.
The first 15 minutes of the second half we started to lose control of the game until De Bruyne was subbed….then suddenly we started to press them again….something we don’t seem to do with De Bruyne in the team.

There is no room for sentiment and as fantastic as De Bruyne has been, we don’t control games the way we once did…..mainly down to his sloppiness in giving up possession. He should not now be considered an automatic starter.

The most frustrating part of his game is that he cannot do the simple things.

He dragged us over the lane last season but I’m afraid time waits for no man.

I think all of the teams turned up with a game plan, but as a top team, we should be able to navigate round them. When we play the other title contenders, I expect that it is more likely that games can go either way. In my opinion, our performance at Forest was really good. One mistake and lack of clinical finishing cost us that game.

Extraordinary !
Arsenal went two nil down at home to possibly the weakest team in the league and dug themselves out of it in the dying seconds. Well done, but it’s a game I expected them to win 5 or 6 without breaking sweat.
We beat one of the strongest teams in the league without actually playing very well.
It‘s a mystery innit?!?
Yes but it would be stupid not to underestimate the importance of that result for them. It was so good from our perspective for so long and then after coming back, they got the winner. What it shows is they are a very good and resilient team and clearly a huge challenge to us.
But what is wrong with that? It’s what makes the game great. I can only hope the last 12 games are fair and square and not manipulated………granted that’s probably a forlorn hope.
