Newcastle (H) Post Match Thread

We were a bit arrogant at 1-0 today imo (and also Aguero at 2-1, shameful). Newcastle scored due to relying on us, trying to entertain the paying public.

Otherwise we did the job against a team who were happy to play the same a goal down, as they would have a goal up.

i wonder how many points these kind of boring ****s have won, by playing that way, against us or anyone, compared to actually trying to win points.

I recon it's not many.
Listening to talkshite on the way home and it was said that Newcastle took more points off the "big six" than any other bottom half team last season. Plus they were a little unfortunate not to beat Chelsea the other week

Strange game, strange atmosphere,2 great strikes to win it,3 points in the bag,we move on,with this game forgotten pretty quickly for me

Pep tried something different as he predicted a parked bus. It didn’t work as well as planned but got the result that mattered.

If you play inverted wingers, you only need one guy up front imo. I think the midfield was exposed and then your relying on two over 30’s to cover the pitch. When Bernie and Gun Dog came on they injected more energy and there seemed a better balance.
No criticism, just observations.

Why Benitez stays there I don’t know? he might like being the underdog and try tacticly to win points plus the zero pressure he is under quite understandable really.

Mahrez needs a goal. I think his confidence is suffering from being in a new team and feeling the need to prove himself. Evident that when he crossed for Silva, he got loads of praise from team mates, suggesting they too are trying to help his confidence.

I think he scores one and we see a whole different player

There's a reason the cross from Silva worked, it was the only time in 66 minutes he didn't cut inside. He needs to vary his attacks because he looks very one dimensional right now.

I don't just mean Newcastle, I mean all of them.

But talking of Newcastle, how many of those occasions were when they were forced to come out ?

I am guessing, but I bet they didn't score first in many of the games they took points off the top teams. They were just playing to lose v Chelsea, but suddenly became a viable opponent when they tried to score.

Fucking changed your mind quickly there didn’t you? :D

I'm a bit concerned about Dinho's start to the season tbh, especially as we didn't capture our targets for that area during the summer

We are suffering from our performances last season imo. If we don’t get 6 or 7 every game then we have been poor!
