Newcastle (H) Post Match Thread

Mahrez would already be twice a effective imo if we had Edin Dzeko, but we don't, so he has to stop crossing diagonal balls to him with his left foot & try going outside sometimes.

I know it’s all hypothetical, but if I had a pound every time I said to myself last season “that ball would have been absolutely perfect for Dezko” I’d be loaded.

It’s ironic really, when we had Dzeko we had a real lack of out and out wide players to hit Dzeko in the area consistently, bar the odd Kolarov assist here and there.

But now we have an array of out and out wide players with no one with any great height to aim for!
That’s why I’m very suprised we haven’t really gone all out for a big front man like a Dzeko / Lewandowski type of striker with the wide players and wing backs we’ve got now!

Three players I have a particular concern with in the current squad. Gundogan,Mahrez,Laporte. As regards Mahrez it’s early days but every time it’s a long drawn out transfer saga it always goes to pooh
Don’t be concerned about laporte

Laboured performance, against a team who worked their socks off. Always makes it more difficult that it needs to be but a win is a win.

Not at our usual standard so far

Give your head a wobble and take a deep breath! Laporte? You must be a worrier by nature. I'll sleep peacefully tonight. There's absolutely nobody in our squad that I could hand on heart say I'm 'worried' about. My security blanket got removed about 44 years ago - and I'm still here ;-)

I agree, however - it's a good job we don't support the bin-dippers. There'd be a meltdown on here. I had every confidence that we'd win that game - without hanging on at the end. The best thing we can do is support our 'squad' - and I say squad because it's not good enough to just have a team nowadays. This will play out during the next 4O odd league games. plus CL games, plus cup games. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Indeed, a squad for four comps

Not our usual smashing of Newcastle but the 3 points are what we are looking for. Great win today considering we didn’t play good, I’m a bit concerned about Mahrez today very predictable trying to get the ball on his left foot every time to cut inside. Atmosphere was good today also the geordies played there part.

Mahrez needs a goal. I think his confidence is suffering from being in a new team and feeling the need to prove himself. Evident that when he crossed for Silva, he got loads of praise from team mates, suggesting they too are trying to help his confidence.

I think he scores one and we see a whole different player
