Newcastle (H) Post Match Thread

I know it’s all hypothetical, but if I had a pound every time I said to myself last season “that ball would have been absolutely perfect for Dezko” I’d be loaded.

It’s ironic really, when we had Dzeko we had a real lack of out and out wide players to hit Dzeko in the area consistently, bar the odd Kolarov assist here and there.

But now we have an array of out and out wide players with no one with any great height to aim for!
That’s why I’m very suprised we haven’t really gone all out for a big front man like a Dzeko / Lewandowski type of striker with the wide players and wing backs we’ve got now!

I think we could use a big striker as an option in the squad now, particularly in games like this one, where they have an army parked outside the middle of the box, purely to stop 1-2s etc in th centre. The danger area is out wide, but there is no specialist for the wide players to cross to.

We are suffering from our performances last season imo. If we don’t get 6 or 7 every game then we have been poor!

Plenty of games last season where we won with a late goal. It wasn't all easy wins. It's always going to be difficult to play our football against a team with packed defences.

Mahrez needs a goal. I think his confidence is suffering from being in a new team and feeling the need to prove himself. Evident that when he crossed for Silva, he got loads of praise from team mates, suggesting they too are trying to help his confidence.

I think he scores one and we see a whole different player

Yeah. I think he is trying too hard at the moment and is finding it hard to adjust from being a big fish in a small pool - no disrespect to Leicester intended - and from being an automatic starter to being surrounded here by other - and some better - star players. I’ve a feeling that once he’s fully settled and Pep finds the right role for him, then we will see the true Mahrez, particularly when we play the better sides who themselves are prepared to come at us and take some risks, perhaps away in Europe. As others on here have pointed out, it’s going to be a long season battling on four fronts and we’ll need every member of our squad to compete. Mahrez will, I’m sure, turn out to be a fine addition to that squad.

Would that be because of the football club or because nature dealt you a cruel blow?

Both lol

I don’t understand their love for Benitez. What has he done for their club to justify it? The football he serves up is absolutely dire and doesn’t get results

Win is a win - just slightly off topic - are vuvuzelas banned now?
Their was a lad with his dad in front of me with a bloody vuvuzela which was very irritating all game.
My understanding was that these are now banned from British stadiums but I asked 3 stewards (East stand) and they didn't have a clue.

In one of his experiments I’d like pep to play mahrez centrally alongside one of the Silvas. He’s really good at the little slide rule passes and short throughballs...with all the willing runners he’d have, just think he might be more effective there in our team than on the wing. And not sure it’s knowable from Leicester just how he’d do in that particular context.
Exactly what a few of us said yesterday, he had white paint on his boots yesterday, just needs to play behind the attack be it a one or two up front.

at the end of the day its only the 3 points that means you won the game, even if you just got over the line or lucky or outstanding you don't get bonus points for playing well and scoring a hat full, but again we have to forget last season and the media are now starting to piss me off with this (not as good) fuck me we are on the same amount of points ?? yes the team is still recovering from a great season and a summer of world cup football and we are without KDB

you know what how about the press praise the team and manger for a great start to the season and we have won the community shield when the players could have just said NOPE WE ARE NOT COMING BACK EARLY to play a game that means little in credit wise so big shout out to MANCHESTER CITY please

To be fair Benitez is a really good manager and Ashley is the bad guy but what Benitez is doing is what fat Sam was doing got dogs abuse and got him the sack in a record time to be hornest the Newcastle fans are a bit hypocritical regarding that.
