The last time Newcastle turned up for a cup final at Wembley was in 1976.
They still lost that one.

I bet no one thought it would be 35 years before we won another major trophy, and that victory would be all we had to cling to for all that time.

I’d forgotten about all the chances we spurned, but if any of them had gone in, we almost certainly wouldn’t have seen the greatest ever League Cup goal scored in that match.

What a team that was.
