you sure about this?
I know that amongst my fairly large circle of match going mates (and myself) there's a unanimous feeling of it could've been us.
think it was well publicised that mansour had tried to buy newcastle before man city but ashley had refused to deal with him. not an isolated incident either, did pretty much the same thing in dubai, not turning up for a meeting and then vomiting all over the bar. fat, obnoxious **** that he is. anyway.... I digress slightly with me ashley hatred, I recall little to no lambasting of your takeover, envy I'd concede.
I found myself defending Newcastle recently against a no-nothing United fan who was slagging off the Saudi owners. I pointed out that if if wasn't for Sheikh Mansour the city of Manchester would have had virtually no inward investment from anywhere in the last decade. We have had fuck all from our London-based goverment...just like the North East. I really hope your club gets success and it brings a re-birth for the City of Newcastle. You all deserve it.

Its up for debate how Newcastle fans viewed our takeover , what isnt up for debate is your club signing the letter that wanted us investigated by UEFA & the Premier league for financial irregularities , there were nine clubs who signed . NUFC being one of them.
No doubt Ashley will take the blame for this as well , but be prepared to be roundly hated by the majority of opposing fans and the many accusations the media will invent over the next ten years , we have endured all this crap but the trophies and trips to Wembley and trips all over europe do soften the blow.
Hope you can grow the thick skin you will need

Hopefully Eddie will target winning a cup rather than go just for the top 4. Whilst top 4 sounds sexy, actually winning something will act as a catalyst for continuing membership of the top 4 for seasons to come.
Winning the cup in 2011 changed everything for us (truth be told, just beating united in the Semi was probably enough) but winning it certainly took some pressure off for the following season and allowed us to chase them down from 8 points behind with 6 games to go.
Whatever the media opinion, winning a cup beats finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th every day of the week. All I’d say is, enjoy it and try not to forget the bad times, as they make the good times even better.

Finally, ignore the media putting you down, as it just means you’re either doing well or even just stopping their beloved red shirts doing well. Do what we do and enjoy the ride as well as the gallons and gallons of boiled piss that creates……….
I think its the other way around. Top 4 gets them the CL which not only loosens FFP so they can spend more (lots more incoming money)but attracts the players they want in order to consolidate their spot and then go for cups.

from a pure fan perspective I would agree with you, nothing beats winning a cup, especially if youve had nothing for so long but in pragmatic terms top 4 is the model for more than just one cup.

Winning the league beats winning a cup. And so does winning a better cup

I think they'll get an easier ride, they're already getting it now with all the references to Newcastle "doing it the right way".

They've a number of advantages, they're not the first and they're a one team town, our rise directly impacted the media darling Man Utd and now we're pissing on the great istry club Liverpool, so courtesy of City they're walking a well trodden path,

Plus there's a long history of the media sickly patronising the Toon Army and the North East in general, it'll take time to change the narrative around to soulless Geordies profiteering from down trodden workers and persecuted homosexuals.

And if you think investment wise the North West has had it bad, the North East has had it worse.

With that said I've seen Geordie fan channels giving it that their shit don't stink, coz they're not playing Billy Big Bollocks like we did. But I put that down to the naivety, insularity and a bit of the old school working class masculinity bollocks you get with a lot of Geordies, what with being stuck up there miles from anywhere.

hello sir, hope you're well.
I'll address your reply in two parts.
for fourteen years newcastle's owner steadfastly refused to communicate with its support in any way, shape or form. the fans forum meetings it was obliged to hold were regularly cancelled and never rescheduled, the ones that did take place were worthless anyway, no dissenting voices were allowed, the members vetted to ensure that, including the banning of the n.u.s.t. on the odd occasion an ashley criticism was voiced it was omitted from the minutes. the closest we came to any sort of communication from the club in nearly a decade and a half was to witness yet another thousand sports direct logos plastered on the foundations, stands and roof (unpaid for) of the ground he'd turned in to a giant advertising hoarding for his fucking tat shop.
I'm aware newcastle were one of the clubs that signed the letter to prompt an investigation in to man city's finances, but rest assured that'll have been by ashley and his little bald lickspittle lee charnley. to suggest any input was made by newcastle's support in this is frankly ludicrous.
and yes I do blame ashley for every single shit, soul destroying and vindictive fuck up he made at MY club throughout his tenure. I hope the fat piece of human scum falls in to a skip full of razor wire. :)
I don't care mate what other clubs support thinks of newcastle, to be honest I haven't got a great deal of love for anybody else other than us anyway, that's the way it's always been and I'm an old bastard now! in fairness, other than a banner at crystal palace I haven't really encountered any hostility since our takeover at a match. online though is an altogether different matter, most obviously from our nearest and dearest. they've racked up over100,000 posts on the smb since october 7th last year about their angst regarding human rights issues. odd really coming from the most insular, bigoted, hovel of a town in the country. the reality is the wearside branch of amnesty international has amassed 150 facebook followers since 2014 and its twitter account 70 since 2017 with no increase in the last 14 months. you could almost be forgiven for thinking that the average sunderland supporter's moral outrage was more about newcastle potentially having a decent football team? finally, the only other clubs support to rival the bile and hatred aimed at us by the mackems is that of liverpools. some of the stuff I've read on rawk is truly fucking headspinning. apparently I'm (or rather we are) a supporter of and condone amongst other things, beheadings, dismemberment, stonings, war atrocities and I have blood soaked hands. for any scouse looking in... we might have had a few pissed up bellends who stuck a tea towel on their head when the takeover went through, the rest of us though are decent, normal people. it's not our job to be the guardians of sporting morality, that was sold a long time ago. our hands are clean, I know of no newcastle supporter that's killed anybody at a football match, liverpool supporters though, most definitely have.
apologies for the long post, look forward to visiting the etihad in march and this time hopefully providing you some competition!

Geordies are second only to scousers when it comes to having a persecution complex. That said, they’re still a million times more likable.
