Newcastle Thread - 2023/24

It's indicative to look at how others react to the threat of a new team on the block, IE bankrolled to becoming a major rival.

When 'nited were winning things, in the distant past, as a fanbase we probably cheered on arsenal and liverpool pure to spoil the rags' hegemony.

Similarly when roman's chelsea came along we were happy that there was another contender.

Our takeover has been the stuff of dreams, I never thought I'd live to see the day we got to a Cup Final, let alone being Champions and now the best team on the planet.

When the Saudis were linked with Newcastle, I said good luck to them. Bring it on, top competition makes us a better team.

FFP is unsustainable, as a lot are now beginning to see, even if it is through the prism of red shirt neediness.

i hated it when Chelsk won everything simply by smashing the salary spend and trf mkt... we had no chance then = that's not sport. Professional sport in this country has always been a bit sh*t really (particularly football) and that's why we saw the Meridith scandal even as far back as the 1900's ....that's why when the American's professionalised their sport years later they looked at the British model, thought fk that, lets try and make it a bit fairer with a draft system and salary cap. Their Franchise system is shit as it means the select number of clubs always play - the lack of a pyramid structure makes their pro sport a bit sh*t but they were right re their version of FFP

Wouldn't say that their version of finance is right, their 'franchise' model ensures the owners make alot of money....or maybe I got it wrong, and the Glaziers, who run their club that way, are really popular?

Their Franchise version is sht..no passion - link to the community..Cleeveland Browns! passionate dog pound crowd...closest they've had to a football crowd.. Franchise up sticks and fked off!! What a crock of shit..only thing they have right is salary cap and draft - which is another way to try and spread success

Professional football since 1880's is as shit as F1 = richest wins - always has been. Leicester won but really, you can hardly call them paupers compared to rest of 72 + pro clubs

You say that but if it was a real wild west Saudi wealth is at least 10 x greater than Abu Dhabi - we would have been out bid and out spent by them every time

I know salaries are high/ridiculous or whatever word a person may use, but it's not the only profession, imo Hollywood film actors are more 'overpaid' for what they do.....but I bet you would kick off if your job introduced a cap, and you were limited to what you could earn?

depends really..on what the cap is...NFL NBA seem happy enough..im not saying £25,000 a year ids the cap - could be £250m as long as it all ends up equal...that's what a cap is for

A salary cap was only brought into the NFL in 1994.
