Very true. He overachieved last season and the Geordies starved of success got all giddy. Understandable. They won't be patient though if it starts to stall.

FFP will be a big issue for them.

His tactics when they played us this season proved he hasn't lost that small club mentality yet. One shot on target, defend deep and play acting and fouling. I think the owners are grateful for the job he's done but with one eye on a replacement.

I'm not even sure that we played the way that we did because of Howe’s tactics, I think the players just haven't clicked yet which I do put down to him. Our central midfield simply have not played well together and that's down to Howe not playing them until the first league game of the season. He knew that our central midfield was going to be because of injuries so why not give them pre-season together as we were playing games every few days so had to constantly change teams.

Even now we’re playing players who should not be getting regular games. Show me a left-back in the Premiership worse than Dan Burn. At this stage I expect to see Hall starting and I will be punching holes in the wall if that doesn’t happen in the next 2 games.

The bloke who got attacked was recovering from having both knees replaced. I just hope that our fans don't look for revenge in the return fixture because the cowards who attacked our fans will probably not come over here.

My two pennies worth is that Howe had a year out following his departure from Bournemouth and learned some new skills to add to his already decent management style.

This propelled Newcastle higher than they expected.

However, now, he’s playing the same style with virtually the same players and when you do that, the opposition learn to work out how to beat you.

The extra games using the same players will burn them out too.

We’re going to learn how patient their owners are this season.

We’re missing Willock massively because he’s great at carrying the ball forward and presses really well.

I expect that we’ll see Hall start on at left-back soon and that would be a massive upgrade on the dysfunctional Burn who severely weakens our left side. I expect that Livramento will start to get eased in more as 33 year old Trippier can’t keep playing these games, at least I don’t expect he can so I can see our game picking up, hopefully.

It’s really hard to stay on top these days (minus Pep’s genius). The analysis teams see every foible and weakness, so perpetual evolvement is needed.

We will be fine after this year. Champions League money will come in and it's been estimated that we'll receive £45 million. Sela are now paying between £20 and £25 million for shirt sponsorship. Addidas is though to be worth £40 million a year from next season. I expect that we’ll have training gear sponsorship, training ground sponsorship and hopefully a sponsorship for St James’.

We’ll not be on mega money like the top 5 or 6 clubs in the Premiership but we’ll be much better off than historically and we’ll keep growing.

As your older players drop off, it’ll be the squad recruitment that will define your next few years.

Anybody who attacks other people deserve to get kicked to shit. The lad who get stabbed spent his first night back home in hospital, I have hard nothing since but flying home is a good sign.

Your fans will be well treated when you come up here next week. Wear your colours and go into virtually any pub and you’ll have a good reception. Come up for the game, have a good drink, take the piss out of each other, enjoy the game and then either travel home or go back into town for another drink, it will be great and safe.

I will add that a few local arses seem to turn out after games which they haven't been to and act like pricks next to the coaches. I usually tell the kids to fuck off when I see them and me and my brother have physically stopped the pricks from fighting with away fans and their arses drop when their own fans challenge them.
