Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Savihnio was a revelation when he came on.....his defensive recovery run shows he should be starting wide and his quality going forward is obvious.
The boy made an amazing defensive run. He also executed a classy assist against Arsenal. He has great feet and pace, of that there is no doubt. I would want to see goals and assists more regularly before we can call him a success though. Early days.

Decent performances feel like poor ones when we’re used to brilliance.

Absolutely none of this is on Pep though. All of our rivals have massively strengthened over the past two summers whilst we’ve stagnated.

Signing bang average players like Philips, Doku and Nunes, all players who would barely get minutes for any top 8 side, doesn’t help matters either.
nah, Doku is not average signing. More faith in Nunes, do not make final call just yet. Signing replacement for Rodri has obvious complications, Philips on the paper looked decent at the time

Bollox did he . He played them onside for the penalty, constantly lost his man and was lucky enough with the other penalty shout they had.
Nah not having that you might as well blame the defender for not getting the ball and the midfield for not losing the ball on the first plac plus the goalkeeper for being rash

Again people keep blaming Walker for everything that goes wrong

A point away at a decent side (they’d probably be better if they didn’t play such a cynical brand of football) with more than a few players scratching about for some form. Thought Josko and Jack were both excellent and Lewis is a gem.

Pep talked about finding a solution. If he thinks that midfield 5 and specifically that midfield 3 is the solution, we can forget the league and we will be in a top 4 battle.

I’m sick of seeing Bernardo grazing out on the wing with his thumb up his arse. He played the last 10 mins in the middle of the park and was the best CM on the pitch. Kovacic has to play, I don’t think anyone would suggest otherwise but sticking Gundo and Rico next to him, gives us the slowest, weakest, most negative midfield this squad can put out on the pitch. I’m not having Rico playing at 8 in a ridiculously weakened midfield. Wanna put him there with Rodri and Foden/Bernie alongside? Might get away with it…not in that 3. It’s fucking suicidal. Rico is fine when we have 70% of the ball. When it’s basketball it’s like watching an U14s playing men’s football.

That set up today suggested we would create next-to-nothing and that’s exactly how it panned out. I’m not sure how Pep expected anything from what we got.

Well, he didn't have De Bruyne and Foden was not yet ready for a start in the league. Not sure what else you expect him to do
