Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

After the Lord Mayor's show. I take a number of things from that game. Gvardiol is not good enough even as CB.To be outpaced by Tonioli in the closing minutes just shows he has no pace as well as lacking physical presence. Foden was piss poor throughout but he has credit in the bank. Suddenly O'Reilly stopped doing any overlap runs. Donnarumma is going to be targetted as he does not dominate his area. Great shot stopper but needs to be more physical.
Yes the ref was awful but...

Apart from the somewhat debatable officiating, Newcastle could've scored more. The worrying part was that our options to win the game are Savinho and Bobb...

You know who we really really missed today?

Rodri.

Gonzalez has been brilliant recently but that was the ultimate 'we're really missing Rodri' game.

No control in the middle of the pitch and no one linking up the play from the back to the rest of the team.

Gonzalez was invisible for the whole second half to the point I forgot he was playing and you just can't afford to have a game like that in that position, especially away from home.

Obviously he isn’t totally to blame for that defeat and others were arguably worse including Phil Foden and Cherki who did no where near enough. Those misses were also totally unacceptable.

These tough away games really show you where you're at as a team and it's blatantly obvious we're not ready to win the title again. We need a top class right winger, Rodri back, and a great no.8 as well.
You might have missed the fact that when we went 2-1 down, We effectively played with a back 3 with Gonzalez really deep. I thought he was our best midfielder. Foden and Cheki were weak as piss in the tackle and Bernardo just ran around chasing shadows and moaning at the ref.
When Rodri is back we need to pair him with Gonzalez

I thought Newcastle played ok and had a real go at us. They got away with murder for constant fouling and Jolinton should have been off. In the end missed chances and poor refereeing/VAR decisions did for us. How that wasnt a nailed on penalty for Phil is beyond me. There were at least half a dozen fouls very similar that were all penalised after that. Second goal looked offside to me. Cherki has to get to grips with the speed and the physicality of this league. The subs gave nothing and diminished our goal threat. Shame but we go again.

Got what we deserved really. Not too concerned as we created enough chances and its only November. Perhaps pep should focus more on managing his team than spouting his political views which we fans do not pay him for.

A tough loss to take. We should have scored more, we also gave up too many big chances.

Just not good enough against any decent team away from home.

That being said, the officials were a mess today, how he didn't give us a penalty today I do not know. For me the foul on Foden is absolutely blatant and a huge game changer.
Summed up perfectly

Not really sure I can get behind pinning it on Gonzalez when he was our only midfielder for the entire game. Don’t really remember him doing much wrong at all and he wasn't invisible at all to me.

We should have won that in the first half with those chances we missed. Their first goal came from a shit clearance by O’Reilly, and their 2nd was offside.
However, we were a shambles in midfield and our attacking subs when chasing the game are pointless,

I hate to say it, but Oscar Bobb is a myth, repeatedly does nothing and Savinho is another half hearted individual. Phil and Erling both culpable for missing great chances, but Phil was really poor today. Nico G looks good when not pressed, but today against their midfield was found wanting, too ponderous and wasteful. Cherki not the right choice for this game. Very disappointing all round.

Just get top 4 city.

We really need to move on a few players & sadly we need a new start with a new manager for me before we start moving forward. It’s all stale at the club & to many players being given passes
