Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

I think this iteration of the side might be the weakest since Pep built the 2017/18 side. The balance doesn’t feel good and we have no depth at all. The importance of the players that have left has been seriously undervalued by the fans IMO.

I still expect we’ll win the league because Liverpool don’t look up to it, but currently this side doesn’t get close to 17/18, 18/19 or 20/21 for me.
If this had been written pre game then it would still have been a bit of a hasty judgement but to sit down and write that nonsense just on the basis of an atypically indisciplined performance in an early season game away to buoyant and improving opponents is just knee jerk reaction bollocks.

Son, thy must never enter the match day thread.

It's funny how others view the same game, and players differently.

Everyone's shit when we're losing and should be subbed off.
The vast majority of the comments are typical fans immediate reactions and aren't to be taken seriously.
Some of the hysteria is amusing though.

At home we'll be ok. As someone said, that was Newcastles fa cup final. That being said, i think points at Newcastle will look like decent points come the end of the season.
Must admit that was the first time Ive seen Newcastle for 90 mins.I was impressed and they will give most teams a good game. We're champions for a reason. An excellent recovery from a well below par performance and could've stolen a winner. I think if we had bought Mahrez on for last 20 mins for Foden we would've clinched it. Thought Bernie was outstanding today.

Listening to the pundits wasnt a red card. I still think if a player lunges in both feet of the ground it's a red. Its wasnt two footed but he was of the ground.
Sky can go fuck themselves with their shit pundits, That includes that brain dead idiot Micah Richards too.

Trippier had zero intention of getting the ball, Went in high at the knee and took Kev out. It's a blatant red card.

I can't believe people are even debating this challenge calling it a fucking yellow! Seriously!!!!!! The same people who would be up in arms if Kev had of stayed down with his cruciate done...It doesn't have to be studs straight into the knee for a foul like that to be a red card ffs

No one can think that of Foden - he is widely recognised, with Haaland, as the best young player in the world. He has not had the best start to the season but to suggest he has become an automaton is too far, IMO.

tbf he no longer does mazy runs like Jesus did yesterday.

He needs to do more like what Bernardo does.

When you fly in with both feet off the ground you are in the lap of the gods. It's only how the opposing players weight or angle of leg is facing that gets you out of ending his career. You are out of control. The person you are tackling isn't.

Its bollocks to say 'I'm not the type of player to injury another". Like you say KDB running flat out trippier lunges in both feet of the ground.
I dont see how it isnt a red card trippier could have caused serious injury.

Rodri is getting a lot of unfair criticism, the way we set up with Gundo and Kdb high meant he was alone in the midfield againts Guimaires and Joelinton, two press monsters.

Apart from the goal, Bernardo was ineffective, I was surprised Pep didn't drop him back into midfield to create a double-pivot with Rodri. The midfield was completely overrun, Walker had to cover two Newcastle players at time.

At one nil up we had two good chances to kill the game from Phil, who should have squared it to Haaland and Kdb who hit a tame shot at Pope. Cancelo didnt help also trying to play reckless balls out of defence, very frustrating player Joao is. Considering all that I'm not sure it's a good point won.

@Inter Me Nan shame I couldn’t see the god wills it GIF today.

Nonetheless, credit where it’s due. Newcastle gave the team a game. Credit also due to Haaland, Kev, Gundo and Bernie.

Hope Ake isn’t out for long. Some may not agree as he’ll be a big miss. Been sturdy as a rock since preseason.

Team showed character to grab a draw from the jaws of defeat. Loads to work on and more nerve wracking but exciting days ahead. Have a good night blues.

Teams with legs and a strong will is a problem for us with Rodri in midfield. Anytime a team walks past him in midfield we have problems. I could see the problems coming after ten minutes. I miss Fernandinho.
What is happening here?!?
