Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Where do you start with that?

Brilliant watch, felt almost like something during the Keegan era.

Honestly don’t think it was a red, yes the foot was high but more tactical than reckless however KDB’s response was interesting.

Hope Ake’s injury is only a niggle.

As for Foden, to be kind i suppose I can only say he’s still young and will learn when to pass.

Thought Newcastle were very good today although I’m not sure doing a lap of honour in August is necessarily the way forward.
They’ll still struggle against anyone that sits back, as more teams will do against them now.

Love the sky presenter suggesting Newcastle have shown everyone else how to beat us, as always happens!

Excellent entertainment.

Newcastle made it uncomfortable for a lot of the game with their quick, aggressive, front-foot defending.

We did give psossession away a bit too much but we still had far more of the ball. They were a threat on the counter but we should have defended better at times and certainly on their goals. The third was a result of Stones being over anxious of the threat from St Maximin and diving in.

Great character, again to come back from 2 down. Unfortunately Pope kept them in it throughout.

Thought Trippier should have been sent off, that challenge was knee high, and they didn't half foul our top players.

Geordie's whistling for the end tells its own tale.

Bernie has to stay, MotM for us.

whats happened to Kelly. she used to be mumsy fit with big bangers. now just looks massive

Great game.
Fair play to Newcastle they took the game to us and went toe to toe. I'd much rather watch that than most of the other sides in the league, who serve up dross week in week out. At least that was entertaining.
A point at Newcastle isn't disastrous, and won't define our season.
We showed some bottle today, we won't steamroller our way through this league at times, what we do when things don't go quite to plan is perhaps more important than say, winning 4-0 as opposed to 1-0.
This isn't a setback, they were a well organised side. We will learn and move on.
I wish them well, competition from outside of the usual suspects can only be a good thing.

The way Hinchcliffe was talking about Newcastle I thought we were playing a hybrid Barca/Madrid with a touch of prime Pele Brazil today !!

I think this iteration of the side might be the weakest since Pep built the 2017/18 side. The balance doesn’t feel good and we have no depth at all. The importance of the players that have left has been seriously undervalued by the fans IMO.

I still expect we’ll win the league because Liverpool don’t look up to it, but currently this side doesn’t get close to 17/18, 18/19 or 20/21 for me.

Newcastle can't possiblely play like this at the end of season. They would be exhausted second half. But at start of the season, with fresh body and one match a week they can do so I guess. City played well second half, missed few chances. Fair result I think.

Can someone please tell me the last time a straight "Red Card" was overturned in game by VAR.

On the grounds of it supposedly being "a clear and obvious error".

When it was anything but a clear and obvious error.

I can not think of a game.

Cheers in advance.
Watching it back, to be honest, it’s nothing more than just a little bit of a kick on the side of the leg, VAR was right to ask the ref to check it and the ref was right to amend his original decision.

We don’t always have to look for a big conspiracy against us or that some giant mistake has been made. It seems like every time we drop points it’s the referee’s, linesmen, VAR, the Premier League or UEFA’s fault.

Showed a lot of character to get back in the game and at 3-1, I definitely would have taken a draw but with 20 odd mins to score a winner slightly disappointed we didn't nick it. Defensively we were poor today and I hope Ake's injury is not too serious because on current form he probably is our best cb.

Gonna take a while to adjust to not having spare player in midfield
This is exactly it. Since the first day we've went Walker and Cancelo in midfield and today it caught us out against good players like Saint Maximin and Wilson. Once Newcastle broke the lines they were straight at our centre backs.

Pep will sort it, He's the best in the world at making tactical changes to the system.

These sort of games show just how good a side we are. Newcastle were excellent all over the pitch, had the crown behind them and they still couldn’t beat us. In fact, their keeper should have been MOTM.

We had too many players off it today but it’s still early in the season. Stones, Walker and Foden way off it today and I wouldn’t be surprised if none of them make our first choice 11 by the end of the season.
