Nobody can claim pep doesn't care about the competition given he's won it 5 times already, nor is it rag-like to want to bin it off this year. The scheduling has dictated that we will have to field an entire EDS side should we reach the quarter finals and given our EDS isn't particularly strong right now after selling or loaning out the better players it's essentially a guaranteed elimination. So why should pep take the rounds prior to that seriously and play a strong side when the people in charge can't even give us an opportunity to field a strong side further down the line.
Take all the EDS and only the players who will benefit from minutes which is probably, ortega, Lewis, gomez, phillips, bobb and grealish. then kovacic if hes fit and needs it and perhaps nunes, gvardiol and doku as the new boys still learning with the latter names playing 45-60 minutes tops. Use it as a training exercise or even experiment and don't be concerned with the result.
Or as David Coleman once said "for those of you with black & white, L'pool are playing in red."Yes they did , but games that were in the old format (and better) European Cup on VHS tape and in black & white do not qualify :)
Wilson Esbrand is on loan in France I thinkOrtega
Rico
Gvardiol
Ake
Wilson Esbrand
Phillips
Nunes

Bobb
Alvarez
Doku
It's also a possibility that we could draw a lower division club in the quarter final. I would prefer we put out a team good enough to give it a go on Weds and then see where that takes us.Hate City losing any game and this competition has given us a lot of happy memories.
But we have a World Club competition coming up and the fact that we will have to field a weaken team if we get to the quarter final
So losing on Wednesday may be a blessing so play the fringe players and rest whoever needs to be for the week end.
And ForestLiverpool retained the old European Cup, didn't they? Doesn't invalidate what you say, it's a genuine question. Seems to me that they did.
Nobody who plays for the EDS against Barnsley in the EFL Trophy tomorrow night will feature at Newcastle on Wednesday for sure.from the training video I can see half the EDS in the first team training. Really wouldn't be surprised to see a shocking lineup
i'd start that baptiste kid we got from west ham
Yeah the schedule is poised to clash with our world club cup commitments. quarter final games are due to be played 19/20th december, we play our first world club cup game on the 19th december so the entire first team squad will be in Saudi Arabia for that.Reluctantly, I have to agree. Why will we be obliged to field an entire EDS side? Is it because of the World Club thing?
