i think its short term job for eddie howe in trying to keep them up. but if they go down he would be the best manager to take them back up

He’s got a tough job on his hands, but with a 2.5 yr deal, I reckon they’ll almost accept going down as long as he brings them straight back up.

For me, they’ve got too much to go down, but Howe has to get them all pointing in the same direction to pull on the rope.

I quite like Howe and was impressed he managed to keep Bournemouth up as long as he did.

I don't think he's likely to be able to take Newcastle to where they ultimately want to go, but for their short and medium term aims (stay in the PL, become reliably mid-table, build a solid platform to grow from) he's probably a decent choice.

I hope he has the freedom to choose who he brings into the club, especially in January. I don't think they need superstars right now, they need hard work and experience of grinding out results to move away from the relegation zone.

They could do with somebody like Andy Morrison to light the fuse of pride in performance. They currently have no leader on the pitch.

Yep, Eddie is little more than a well paid supply teacher in the Pellegrini mould. They will eventually want a bigger name within 12/18 months

He lasted just 2 seasons at Burnley and just couldn't settle in the North, I think if I am not mistaken that Newcastle is even nearer the Arctic Circle.

I think they all had better CV's then Howe when they got their big jobs, but to be fair I think people are thinking of what Newcastle could be in 5 years, not what they are now. Howe was being pushed for the Arsenal or Spurs jobs while at Bournemouth, and now people aren't sure if he can take over 19th placed Newcastle!?

He's working with players who are used to Steve Bruce, they will love Eddie, and once things get on a roll, new players won't arrive and suddenly decide they don't rate the manager they agreed to play under the previous week.

Never had much of an opinion on Howe, but if he has spent his time observing the way Pep goes about his work then he should be a different manager to the one at Bournemouth.
Pep has changed British football since he arrived and from top to the bottom it's style has changed.
I would be pleased if he turned them around without overspending in January and build from there.
I don't fear the Newcastle investment but I know four of the big 6 will.

this was a big thing in how quick the turn around happened and the platform to build the foundations

newcastle are based on sand at the moment and a big investment right away could mean trouble

Agreed. Trouble is will they be able to sign any superstars in Jan if they are still rooted in the bottom 3 ? With the squad they're stuck with until then it's highly likely they could be well adrift IMHO. The other issue is that Jan is normally not a good window to be buying in. Logic suggests that they could well end up with one or two mercenaries which may do more harm than good. It has been revealed that (contrary to popular belief) back in 2008 City weren't interested in any player who put money before the project. Even though we had a lot of catching up to do we had Gary Cook at the helm then and like him or not he did a decent job at the time. With the greatest of respect to Amanda Staveley & co I don't see the Geordies being in as strong a negotiating position as we were at that time. I think its going to take years for them to get anywhere near where they want to be.

They have very few players who can play Howe's way, they'd be better off going down and gutting the squad.

What they really need to spend their money is an exceptional DoF. If they give Howe the budget they'll end up like Bournemouth.

I honestly think they're going down, don't see them being able to sign much in January and the current squad is terrible.

They've got a huge job ahead of them, it's very easy to waste huge amounts of money on transfers that either don't work out due to injuries/suitability/adapting, not to mention just plain overrated or beyond sell date types. Though its obviously early I see no indication so far they are making progress towards getting a top notch football infrastructure in place and the manager search was very amateurish. I wonder just how seriously the new ownership group has planned for the possibility of relegation?

Well they've got a relegation specialist manager who's also gotten out of the Championship, so I'd say pretty seriously?

It was his wife who couldn’t settle in the north. I think tbf to Howe, he might have visited Newcastle enough times with work since to know where it’s situated.
