I was going to do a post criticising Saudi human rights abuses but now they indirectly own a football club I find myself strangely unable to say anything bad about them. Why, oh why, did the premier league allow this??!!

Yes, I am being sarcastic.

My thoughts too. Has one recently banging on about Etihad sponsorship etc yawn. However know a real supporter too.

I’m happy for the Geordies, they’ve persevered stoically through some tough times and I think they deserve the good times that are heading their way.
I think that they’re good supporters and decent folk, as are the people of the Northeast generally.
I had drinks with some of them after we beat them in the 76 LC Final and for the rest of my life I’ve got along with any I’ve met just fine.
I know they have some nob head fans but IMO not at a worse ratio than we do.

I also like that the cartel of US owned clubs and their media stooges, with their often openly anti-Arab / casual racist ’oil-club’ slurs, will suddenly find that they’re up against another club with enough clout to tell them to fuck right off.

In all honesty there are now so many articles about how this might constitute ‘sportwashing’ that it clearly undermines the existence of any such concept. If any billionaires want a load of bad press they should buy a big premier team that don’t play red.

I just can’t see it ever being a serious issue, so let the fans enjoy it. I know we have!
 
So all the prem league has to do is ensure Newcastle get relegated this season. I am sure VAR and pigmol can achieve this for the prem league !
 
It will be interesting to see how the takeover is seen by the media in a couple of years. Abramovich, then Mansour, now Saudi Arabia, all criticised, but nobody ever dares to criticise the Yanks who buy Brisish clubs, get them into debt and sell shares for personal profit.
