It would leave them on 11 points at the halfway stage of the season so would be near certain to go down.

Or if you looked at it sensibly, 6 points from Howe's first 8 games including 5 of the hardest teams in the league.

He needs about 30 points from the remaining 27 games. They'll stay up based on games vs. Norwich, Watford, Southampton, Brentford, not City, Liverpool and United.

I suppose when you have money you can afford to buy these players further along their development. Buy 21/22 year olds for £30m instead of 18/19 year olds for £15m
True, although at 21/22, most good players will have established themselves and be worth more than £30m in the modern day market.

Who will go there in January?
That’s going to be his - and Newcastle's - problem.

Was it the first January after the takeover that Shay and Nigel arrived?

There might be a few players willing to take the plunge, but it’s going to be very hard to get enough quality in to dig themselves out of the hole that the elephant man and the obese Cockney have landed them in.

Lots of players will go for the money. They don't need the best players, just a few good enough to keep them in the league.

It'll be interesting to see how he does. Often when a manager does well with a promoted team, it's because they've been given time to build a team and know them inside out by the time they get to the PL. They then get a bigger job where they're expected to perform straight away and it doesn't work out because actually it was the whole structure of the club that allowed them to succeed rather than their individual talent. Having said that, I rate Howe and I reckon he'll do alright. I'm surprised they didn't go for Graham Potter though. Maybe they did and he refused?

They might be able to get a few loans in too.

Lingard maybe? Origi? Barkley?

They may go and keep them up.
