Seriously, I bet even Burnley and Woods thought it was a joke when they got a call offering 25m for him! He's a carthorse and not a particularly good one.

They must be in a real pickle if this is what their money buys. It's an absolute desperation signing. Surely they should be offering 75m for Aubameyang etc rather than just trying to "weaken" opponents!
Because they are absolutely desperate.

Just reading the BBC Sport article on the Toon and it appears that Steady Eddie has already bought into the Geordie delusion of grandeur. He says that players will want to join the club because of its "history".
That'll be the history of the most recent domestic trophy win 66 years ago. It will also be the history which includes attendances down to only 12k of their fantastic fans when they were in the old 2nd division pre-Keegan.

They really do seem to believe they are something they are not.

Surely the defence needs a good looking at. I believe that a bloke in a wheelchair scored against them last week. :-)

I think Woods will be decent enough. Joelinton seems much better in midfield so they have a gap to be filled.

I hope it works out for them anyway. It's good to see a club on a journey like this. They'll get loads wrong but if they get a few things right they'll slowly improve.

As long as they aren't Liverpool, United, Spurs or Arsenal they can't be that bad.

I think both.

4th least scored (with their top goalscorer out for 2 months).
2nd most conceded.

They need a new team basically. Luckily 3 teams around them are just as tragic.
