All the hype, giddiness and hope in the world won't help them today. They've still got the same squad and manager. If Spurs bang a couple of early goals in the place will go flatter quicker than a newly opened can of Watneys party seven

Reports today that they'll not take a manager who is already employed & a xfer budget of £50m in January.

Hmm that isn't quite sounding as they're going to put some proper money in. New manager with no compy to pay and 2 or 3 players at a stretch they could still go down & be playing a promoted Sunderland next season.
Just trying to avoid the hyper inflation on player transfer fees by saying they aren't going to have a huge budget. It's bollocks of course. They may pay huge wages to a few players as well. The likes of Ramsay, Courtinho and even Sterling maybe going cheap but wages high.

This sums up the problems they'll face.

Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor on BBC Radio 5 Live:

"The feel-good factor is back, but attracting the biggest names is going to be the hardest thing. How do you keep these top names happy? Not just that but the wives, girlfriends, families, kids.

"I’ve experienced that with Newcastle with some top, top players – they didn’t enjoy Newcastle. They were always flying down to London, flying abroad in Europe as much as possible, it’s trying to keep them happy.

"We had some really good players it’s just they didn’t settle in at Newcastle. You can go back to when Hugo Viana left Portugal and came to us as one of the top European players – nothing went well for him, he felt unsettled.

"The likes of Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, these types of players I played with, were they happy at Newcastle?

"You always see examples of them flying away on their days off, out of Newcastle. Their wives weren’t particularly happy, there wasn’t a lot for them to do. That will be Newcastle’s next biggest thing – keeping the families happy."

Absolute hypocrites. Slated us and always banging on about ‘money’ etc etc.

I hope they get bummed by Spurs today.

Let’s sign Saint-Maxima, all their players will be wanting pay rises, he’s a direct player and a slippery fella.

Totally agree. £50m doesn't buy you much these days. Buying one club isn't going to compete with the City Footbal Group and even if it does we have 10+ years start on them.

There's a difference between having the money and spending it on Newcastle.
