I'm afraid we are in for a difficult start. Too many players with no friendlies to start, and a fair few who are also new to our club. And the fixturelist doesn't look friendly. Than again Pellegrini and his style of football is now more familiar, with a clear view for any newcomers to what he wants.

I would be happy with a draw despite our good record vs Newcastle over recent years. A good start away at Newcastle will be very important. Newcastle themselves have to bed in nearly a complete team of players, so it's hard to tell where they are.

Happy the new season gets underway.

Although we won 2-0 last year it was a difficult game. I think Dzeko scored first then they started kicking us of the park. Nasri got "taken out" - pardew called pellers "f*cking old man" - they scored but it was ruled offside - this gave MOTD pundits a field day(lucky City) the the Beast scored in the last minute. it will be a 1-1 draw.
I think with half of City being - not up to match fitness -

I think the not so charming Mr. Pardew called Senor Pellegrini a 'fcuking old cnut'.

Edin's goal that day was one of the goals of the season. 14 passes I counted on a recent re-watch, and included Merlin at his magical best. Also included a masterful performance from MDM (strange that, given that it wasn't until Hull he was any use!!!).

Imo, VK, Merlin and Sagna start and we win 5-0/5-1.

I think we will get the win. Not sure if they have strengthened much over the summer but at the end of last season Newcastle were absolutely woeful. In their last 19 games they lost 13. I know a couple of people who are season ticket holders there & they all said they were terrible.

I know any team can get beat on the day, but with the players & squad that we have we should be beating teams like Newcastle with their current players.

Tough game this make no mistake.

I hope all the positivity surrounding us at the moment works in our favour.

We are still probably 2 or 3 weeks away from being able to field our strongest eleven.

I hope we win, but a draw won't be the end of the world. Come on City.

Excitement for this game is kicking in now for this game.

I am a little worried - as usual - about the fitness of some of our players and I still think only a few of the latecomers should play, those being Kompany and Fernandinho.

I think Sagna will play over Zabaleta as I agree with that article (I can't remember the paper) stating that Pellegrini was going to rest Zabaleta at the start of the season after playing such a long season.

Three in midfield for me because of our lack of perceived fitness, had this game been in a few months time though then maybe we could get away with a two, but not at the moment.

I can see this being a tight game.

Three of that back 4 will be having this game as their first for over a month, I think Vinny will play but not Zabaleta and Demichelis.

Sagna and Nastasic will be the other two in my opinion.

I would be staggered if Zab was not in the starting line up

For me, the easiest way to get over lack of prep is to play the settled back 4 from last season. Hence, like you I reckon Zab will play.

yep. its not like sagna has had time.

When did Navas last "have a right go"at any full back. Got the pace but seems to lack the courage, confidence and mental strength. He should be one of our difference makers in the final 3rd of the pitch and match. Does most of his best work going backwards. Underwhelmed last season...big one coming up ! !
16 assists
