for a one club town their support is a disgrace, last season was an embarrassment to them.
Do you consider yourself to be a **** or are you just oblivious to it?

Last seasons support was a disgrace?

* Premiership prices
* Watching drivel most weeks
* A club who sold 10 of their best players
* Thrown to the ground and spat on by Ashley with not a penny investment
* No domestic trophies in 55 years
* Gets the third highest non top flight gate in history of English football (just under 44,000)
Hi
* Bettered only by Man Utd 48,000 (1974) and Newcastle 58,000 (1948)
* An average attendance bettered by Man City in the TWICE in any division

....and our average gate of 43,569 is a disgrace? You total fucking mug. Your 28,000 in 1998 was nothing special. £15 to get in tops, in the boom years after Euro 96, Oasis made City cool for a while, and it was almost a cult to watch the club, just a few years earlier you were getting 19,000 in a division higher. Whereas all you can throw at us is 1991, when if anyone who had a clue about Newcastle would know there was an official boycot to overthrow Gordon McKeag which we won. We had the highest average outside the top tier in the 80's (1984 - 30,000 third highest in the country), the highest in any league and a world record in the 40's (58,000) and the highest outside the top tier in the 21st century, 44,000, and that will never be bettered. Because the only fans who are capable of such loyalty are Man Utd, and they'll never go down again.

As for the laughable stats about population. Newcastle's population is actually 250,000, we're part of Tyne & Wear which has a pop of 1.1m, Greater Manchester is nearly 3m. So that dispells that myth, the irony is you use Man Utd as an excuse for your support, when the bush you beat them with is they're all out of towners, make your fucking mind up eh, and on an even level playing field Sunderland are a much better supported club than Manchester City.

Abusing a 44,000 average gate from a club without a trophy in 55 years in the second tier of a football league :lol: you all know you're not capable of it. Lets be honest you'd be at 29-32000 now in the Premiership if you were still managed by Pearce coming 15th-16th. The fair minded City fans would begrudgingly agree.

At least you admit your admin de Niro is a tool. The 1990/1991 season average was due to a boycot arranged by United Supporters For Change, to remove Gordon McKeag from power and get SJH in, we won and we didn't really look back. Even in the 80's selling our best players every year, we were in the best 6-8 supported clubs in the country, despite being in the top 10 once, and as I said we were the third best supported club in the country despite being in Division Two in 1984. I don't know where these myths come from, it's usually bourne out of jealousy, as when you divide success by attendances over the last 60 years, there really isn't a comparable club that I know of in world football. Our gates in that league are almost double what Leeds, with a catchment area double ours, have been getting no mention of them eh? So apart from 1991, what else can you say about our gates, two dodgy ones in the economic clutch of the very early 80's?

I think Man City have decent support, you have a hardcore of maybe 25,000 and it's admirable, but you'll see signs of gloryhunters fucking your support even more in the coming years.

All the figures are on a link lower down the thread.

So Leazeslad what about the empty seats chant ?

41,000 against Stoke 2 weeks ago, thats 5,000 below our gate against you, and over 10,000 below your capacity, and even allowing for Stoke not taking the full allocation of away tickets, its not great is it ? What excuse is there for that ? Daft kick off time ? on TV ? protest ? prices ? something else ? You only had 44,000 against Villa too, first game back in the top division.

I suggest you put the empty seats chant away until you don't have any yourself, especially as there were empty seats in your block on Sunday anyway, and you didn't take the full allocation of tickets.

{edit}
Oh and there was no mention of Leeds in the topic, simply because it wasn't Leeds singing the two songs, and the topic is about Newcastle fans.

Its funny but I know one of yours quite well, and each season we have bet who's daft idiots will sing the "where were you..." song first or most, your lot won hands down this year, well done.

yeah we do have a hard core....you didn't answer my question what was your average gate pre Keegan? I've no idea myself because in that time before Keegan I didn't really take much notice of newcastle..

You can't compare Greater Manchester's 2.5 million to the borough of Newcastle within Tyne&Wear, you would have to compare the borough of Manchester's 483800 population. Or the 1.1million to the 2.5million.

And looking at population sizes and the amount of teams around that area is perfectly legitimate!

Even look at the whole of the North East, there is Newcastle, Sunderland (Prem), Middlesborough (Champ), Hartlepool, Darlington (Lg 2) and that's it; okay i'll give you Hull and York!
In the North West there is City United Liverpool Everton Bolton Blackburn Wigan Blackpool (all Prem) Stoke aren't that far away, Preston Burnley (Championship) Leeds SheffU arent that far away, Oldham Rochdale Tranmere (Lg1) Huddersfield and SheffW aren't that far away, Crewe Macclesfield Stockport Accrington (Lg2) Port Vale arean't that far away - and that's just off the top of my head.

At the end of the day, Newcastle get an average sized support considering the size of you region and the fact there are pretty much fuck all other teams around you.

We do say United's support is from all over the world, because it is there are said to be 500million United fans around the world, they aren't all from Manchester are they? But they are also well supported in Greater Manchester, i'll admit that. But are a Manchester club and i'd say most of our support is from around this region, with only thousands (not millions) of others from around the world "supporting" us!

You say you haven't won anything for 55years, but you've finsihed 2nd in the Prem twice, got to two FA Cup finals and played in the Champions Lg! That seriously is enough to get people involved and interested in supporting you!

I'm not saying your support is shit, it isn't! But there is no way on Earth Newcastle United fans can give City fans shit in any way about our support!

Well it was was 42,000 against Stoke, with less than 600 Stoke, so that's basically 45,000 with a team bringing a proper away support. I don't know if you've noticed but the North East is in a dire economic state, people losing their jobs by the week, and the ticket prices never go down. Added to the fact this game was on Sky FREEVIEW, I think it's understandable, why only 42,000 went to the match, an attendance which was our lowest top flight league gate for 10 years. Given the fact we've had little or no investment and our ambition is to come 17th added to all of the above, I think my last sentence is astonishing by any standards. We haven't got cheap tickets like some clubs, and spending £500m on absolute world class players.

As for this allocation thing we got 2,650 tickets and they were sold out three weeks ago, documented on nufc.com, is this the fans fault yes or no? Explain how that is the fans fault please.

Which season pre Keegan? Higher than yours in 1964 no doubt though. We've averaged under 20,000 three times in our history.

The size of their region? The least populated region in the country. Within 20 miles of Newcastle there's no more than 1.2m people do you not understand that? In that area there is a better supported club than yourselves, Sunderland. Do you not understand that? Within 20 miles of Manchester there must be 5m people, regardless of how many small teams there are.

Sorry I missed the 915.....

So you're using all the excuses I provided for the empty seats apart from "protest". OK. Most of these are the same excuses we could use for our empty seats.

The fact is that neither set of fans should be singing either song at each other, we've all had about as much "shit" as we can suffer, and its a wonder either club get the crowds they do. However you are the one on a City forum acting all outraged by the comments about your clubs attendances, and the size of your catchment etc, we can all point at various excuses for low crowds etc.

As I said though I really do recomend that you retire the empty seats song, at least until you don't have any, it embarrases you all, especially in a stadium that was about 800 below capacity, given your allocation.

As for the allocation, I've no idea why you didn't take the full one, unless it was a police/stewarding thing to do with persistent standing.
