Newport (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

Incidentally, this had probably been said, but lots of gracious and generous comments on We Are Exiles (Newport County's forum) yesterday and today about us. They're all proud of their team, and they're right to be. They're glad to have seen City, and there's none of that mean-spirited whingeing that we all too often get from fans of our direct rivals in the PL. If anybody could have a right to bang on about the cost of our team as compared to theirs, it's Port fans. There's virtually none of that, they're not bothering. They gave it their best shot, they worried us somewhat for a while, then they lost. They move on.

That was a refreshing read, makes this place look like a bear pit....

Also, was reading things all week about Newport being the biggest dump in the UK

Didn't seem that way to me, although I didn't see that much of it admittedly. Modern and impressive down by the footbridge over the river with a few tidy bars and restaurants there

A really tricky banana skin avoided, so well done to the boys in blue. Not quite York away but I was at these FA Cup shocks back in the day:

Lets all enjoy today/tonight the future is bright and it's sky blue

Dreadful memories flooding back.should be a warning before such footage is posted!! ; )

The biggest thing to come out of this will be the first match kids who came to support Newport will have seen the skills of City and will be part of the new generation of City fans, it's how the other clubs gain their fan base and the way it was 50 years ago for us older fans who sat around a massive TV with a small screen were brainwashed into following City.
What a wonderful journey, champions to champions.
Newport played an honest game on a pitch they did their best to get it as good as they could and they will remember yesterday for day City came to town and they got to see Pep in the flesh such is his standing.
Very good point that.the kids will have seen...,in one match..an outstanding almost Pele/Banks save...,One of the greatest midfielders ever to play in this country(Silva),The current Brazilian no.9,probably englands best young midfield talent,a defensive midfield master class from Ferny,..and..a close up example of playing the ball out from the back...not to mention Ukraines international central midfielder filling in capably at left back....now,for any football daft kid..thats a hell of a lot to take in,marvel at,and remember for a very long time.

I note you say Newport played an honest game.pity the ref didnt!

Probably waisting my time, because he probably can't fucking read, but one of our young 'FANS' let a flare off in the bar area inside the ground there were a lot of people in there elderly ect and it quickly filled up with blue smoke that can't have done anybody with a chest condition any good, it was rolled over to where I was standing it's ruined a £70 pair of boots and my jeans, Newport County had gone to trouble of putting tables and chairs in and this is how these knob heads treat them they closed it straight away, how are they getting so many tickets? There was 2 young girls that pissed up they couldn't stand up, if people are letting these idiots use their supporters numbers they must be mad because its them that will suffer if they get arrested
Had a similar issue at Newcastle, group of about 6 under 20's, 2 snorting coke in the seats next to us, and then one of the others in the same group threw a full bottle of beer into the Newcastle fans below (that's if he reached that far, as we were 2 rows from the back, so it might have hit a fellow blue in our section), the funny thing is, one of the coke snorting idiots was stood with a bloody nose, crying to a policeman after the game, when it kicked off outside.

Thought Hartsons comments on BT were laughable. He must have been having a laugh or pissed. According to him our keeper was Emmerson. He then later mentioned our new midfielder Davison da Silva. At half time he said Newport could be proud that they had kept de Bruyne so quiet. 2nd half kept getting Jesus, Sane & Danilo mixed up. Then at the end he said that some of the Newport players would be able to tell theirgrandchildren they played against the likes of Aguero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Hartson is angling for a job as part of the Fox Sports broadcast team - he'd certainly fit right in.

It was comedy gold there for awhile - Hartson would say "Emmerson," in one of his remarks and then Ian would come in a few seconds later, emphasizing that "EDDERSON" did such and such - hoping that Hartson would notice his mistake. But Hartson kept on saying "Emmerson," and Ian would immediately say "EDDERSON." After about 3 such exchanges, Ian just gave up. Hilarious.

Over the bridge by the shopping centre was fine but round the ground horrific .but having said that every person we spoke to was great and helpful with us.a case of never judge a book by its cover

Was worried before the game Newport would attempt to kick us all over the park like Cardiff did last year in the FaCup. Credit to their manager for how he conducted himself before, during and after the game with his comments about Pep & the players. Newport made life hard for us & didn’t just park the bus. Into the quarters now & hopefully another trip to Wembley. Hoping for Swansea home.
It was about 30 mins before the first free kick for a foul.

From the Joe Mercer school of pronunciation in the 66 world cup: Peely and You see beer.
