Newport (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

I had to giggle at Newport striker Padraig Amond's comments. Talking about the match and his goal he said...

“When I scored I wanted to take off,” admitted the Irishman. “For a moment I thought I could beat anyone. It was the best feeling to score against a team like that. I’m disappointed now, but in years to come I’ll be unbearable.”

The guy will still be a legend in Newport now. I can imagine him as a grumpy old bugger in 40 years explaining how he scored against City and everyone in the pub listening out of decency for the 1243'rd time. Fair play to him, after the disappointment wears off, the feeling of that goal will be what sticks out in his memory.

All the best for the rest of the season Newport :-)

Incredible, some of the stories that do the rounds. You know that there are some people who believe that City won a European trophy before Liverpool FC?
And the FA Cup 60 yrs earlier and let’s not forget the League Cup 10yrs earlier. Not bad for a club with no history.....

Over the bridge by the shopping centre was fine but round the ground horrific .but having said that every person we spoke to was great and helpful with us.a case of never judge a book by its cover

You obviously didn't see the town, Row after row of shops closed down, the homeless sleeping in tents in the doorway, 2 people were asleep on a mattress at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, it is sadly run down and depressed. The people were great, the town was awful.

I would just like to thank two of our travelling fans for yesterday. I couldn't get a front row ticket for Newport so was in row G on the aisle because the ticket office thought that would still give me a view although sitting down. Unfortunately this was not possible as, of course, people were standing there. (I am not criticising or anything, that is the norm & is fine.) I politely asked two of the lads if they could just move over a little and explained my dilemma. Not only did they move with a lovely apology but one of them went down to the front row and asked a supporter there if they would swap places with me. Without a hesitation this second fan agreed and they moved me to the front row. I say without hesitation because it happened so quickly.

Thank you lads, huge thanks. If either of you are on here I hope you recognise yourselves. You were stars. Once again our wonderful fans show their class.

p.s. The Newport fans were also brilliant. So friendly and just asking me to let them score one goal and another said please don't humiliate us!!................ On my way back to the station I had to stop for a rest a couple of times and a group of them came over to ask if I was all right and could they help. I reassured them that I was just taking a breather because I can't always walk too far these days. But again shows how there is so much good in this world still. :-) :-)

Good to hear of people being 'normal' - I say that not to take away from their great behaviour - just a shame that this is not all normal nowadays

I mixed with a number of Newport fans before and after the game - they were really sociable and friendly

Did both sides of the bridge they have tried round the shopping centre to make it decent but they have let the homeless set up their.tents truly depressing :+(
Round the ground could be described as an area that a convoy of travellers had just left horrific people great tho
