The fact that Pep is happy to let the players pick the captain suggests that he doesn’t think the on field role is that important. Perhaps he sees it as more a liaison role, an intermediary between the players and the management. In which case it would be more important to pick someone with a strong voice in the dressing room.

I disagree that KDB is a front runner. I can't deny how good a footballer he is, but he's had his moments (let me talk!/Getting angry after getting injured v Crystal Palace).

For me it should be David Silva or Fernandinho this year and then Sterling once they move on.

If we are going by moments, didn't Fernandihno try to choke Fabregas? And by your system shouldn't that disqualify him?
