Next Captain

Still can't believe we didn't win that match against Napoli.
So many chances to score.

That Dortmund game as well, I know they had a superb game but we had plenty of chances to score ourselves. Incredibly frustrating.

yes Yaya should have scored, Aguero unlucky to hit post.

I think that campaign was very unlucky. Bayern away we should have had 2 penalties, had we been 2-0 up, tevez incident would never have happened.

And if we'd not bombed out that year, we wouldn't have had so much pressure this year.

no he's not. he got in by default this season

He's probably started 90% of games in the last 18 months... Id say thats pretty much first choice...

No he's not.

He got in by default for the last 6 games of last season because Micah was injured and Mancini stuck with the same team 6 games in a row (apart from when Yaya was injured).

Micah then got injured for all this season, which is why Zabaleta played (and Maicon, if he was ever in contention was injured too).

Zabaleta is frankly awful in terms of our attacking phase of play.

Richards is far better in that area, and this notion that Zab is a better defender than Micah is utter nonsense. Zabaleta is routinely found out in the Champions League, steaming into tackles trying to nick the ball rather than stand off (leaving gapping holes in behind).

He didn't get in by 'default'.
He got in by training hard, biding his time without whining, being a team player and taking his chance when it came which resulted in him being named in almost every team of the season and our player of the season by a mile.

Absolutley not. Zabaleta is not respected enough like Yaya Youre and Kompany. Plus he's second choice RB .. he only played this season because Richards was injured.

As a player, he's okay going forward but his defence is not that good actually. He really struggles sometimes, that's when he turns nasty and argues with the referee .. he even argued with the referee several times in the st louis game..i mean it was a friendly game for goodness sake. if you all remember, he got a red card in the fa cup final...this hindered us from winning that game. He needs to be sold not given the captaincy.

i'm sorry to upset zabaleta fans, but sometimes the truth has to be told even if hurts some people.

This can't be serious?!

It's like we have a new breed of fans whose memories are similar to that of a goldfish. They are probably the same oafs that almost had a nervous breakdown when the new shirt was unveiled only to perform the quickest U-turn in history after the first Chelsea friendly.

We have a captain who led us to the Premier League title, whose will to win produced the sole break through in the do or die derby against United, who has settled in Manchester, who is the envy of EVERY football club in the World, who dismisses transfer talk out of hand and is still young.

Zabaleta was far and away our best and most consistant performer last season but could anyone really justify the club sitting down with Vincent Kompany and finding a valid reason to strip him of the captaincy? Fucking stupid thread.

The best player at the club is the current club captain...why change? Spanish speaking is irrelevant.

I agree with this, Yeah Zabaleta would make a quality captain but Manuel can speak very good English so whats it matter?

Zabaleta Vice captain as it currently stands will do me fine as they are both fantastic players that would walk into any team in the premiership
