There is thing you may have heard of. It is called National Insurance. When you work you pay in, when times are hard you get helped out. Some Liberal fella called Beveridge came up with it as a way of alleviating the grinding poverty that people suffered before WW2 in the great depression.

It is like paying into a fund for when you are down on your luck. It has worked very well for years and years. Its worked that well some Tories think there is profit in it and want to privatise it. A sure sign something works for the people surely.

You never know you may benefit from it yourself one day. The vast majority do.

Too true and I'm all for it, works even better when everyone at least attempts to pay in don't you agree? You must of missed the word some in my post, it is a useful word that prevents the poster from having to disclaim not all individuals are the same

It would be nice to see actual figures of the "some" who have never paid in.

Whilst obviously some will never be able to, it does suprise me that figures have never been released of the actual numbers who could and have never done so. I can only presume that the numbers are so low they are neglible and so would serve no propaganda purpose. Much easier to leave it to myth and anecdote that millions of workshy have never done a tap. Much easier to slag welfarism off that way. Facts just get in the way of the narrative.

Unfortunately your presumptions are based on your bias, as the figures have never been released your guesswork seems a tad silly as you are pretty much arguing against yourself, knowing the quality of our governments they probably don't even know, whilst the Tories could gain some support from releasing the figures if they were high past labour governments would have released them if they were low

Assumption damages though. It is like the FOI request to the DWP asking how many families where three generations have never worked actually exist. The answer came back zero. But the assumption is that there are many.

People assume JSA makes up 30% of the welfare bill, its actually less than 5%

The myths and some of the lazy assumptions that surround the issue of welfare in the UK really frustrate me. Families of 12 are reported as being on X benefits as though families of 12 are rampant in the UK and they are all having kids for the money etc etc. The debate on how welfare can be improved for the better of everyone concerned cannot be fair and honest until the myths are debunked and the true figures are released or at least collated. As long as a narrative of demonisation continues then how can we possibly be fair to everyone?

A good start would be if we found out how many people have never paid NI who are capable of paying it. The system of NI is a good one and needs strengthening so people have more trust in it. If it is just constantly derided because of assumption, we will end up with it privatised and all that will mean is higher insurance premiums for ordinary working people for no obvious benefit. Some may think it is a good thing, i do not because i believe we all must have a stake in the state for the state to work for us all.

If tomorrow a multi billionaire was found to have illegally fiddled his accounts so he paid no tax whatsoever what would you do with this individual

Corbyn is the only one of the four worth even listening to, ie. he's not a robot, but his politics will set the Labour Party back decades.

And even if he somehow became PM, he'd do the same for the country, given the chance.

Is the answer?, Crucify the horrible cheating **** and give his money to a homeless charity?

Or is it pursue him with the full force of the law and make him pay his fair share and give him a jail term of a similar length to a person who falsely claimed welfare?

Why would that be the case?

Is it because you are programmed to think that renationalisation of the Railways and the Utilities is a bad thing as it is Socialist and profit must always come before what is good for the nation?

Is it because you have been programmed to think that despite every study to the contrary you thik growing inequality is good for the country and that the pesky Socialist wants to stop it.

Is it because you dont believe women should have equaity, be paid the same and have the same opportunities than men?

Is it because you think lifetime learning is a bad thing and it is better to keep the proles ill educated?

Is it because you would rather the UK spent £100 billion on weapons we will never use?

Is it because you believe austerity is good for the country, seeing as though it has been such a success in Greece?

Is it because you believe the bedroom tax is fair?

Is it because "red" Jezza will make corporations who trade here pay tax on what the profits they make here?

Is it because you believe the NHS should be privatised?

Is it because "red" Jezza is a "red" and therefore must be a Stalinist and we know what a monster he was?

Is it because he talked with Hamas and seeks to find a solution to the Palestinian problem?

Or maybe is it because he is honest and therefore must be guilty of something like the other slimy bastards but has not yet been found out?

What im finding is that the more Corbyn is attacked and the more hysterical and baseless those attacks become, the more his lead in the Labour leadership polls become. It is funny that the more the media and political commentators tell us he is unelectable, the more electable he becomes. The more the idiotic Blairites tell us how wrong we are and Labour must be a party of the Neo Liberal centre ground, the more the Labour party membership support Corbyn. Under Corbyn there will be a clear choice for the UK electorate and at the last election there was little choice between Tory and Tory lite. The electorate didnt buy that and thought all the parties were the same.

If Corbyn wins at the next election the Labour party will stand on its principles and the electorate will have the option to decide on two different paths. It is a good thing. I ike Democracy and i want that choice, others should have it too.

Maybe it's because he believes he'll run out of money.
