Next Rail Strikes Announced.

The strikers and the union leaders also seem to love the Z-List Celebrity status it's giving them.

So utterly sad and pathetic, and they don't care about us at all. I feel the worse for small business owners like coffee shops based in train stations, missing out on income from people who would normally use the trains and grab a coffee on the way to work.

They are not doing anything, just get of that picket line and go round the table and sort this childish arguing out for once.

It's making me realise that under Labour we won't be much better or worse than we are now. These unions are all Labour funded and their stories supported. We will have even more of them if they get in, while under Tory it will be even more austerity. For the first time ever since becoming a registered voter, I won't be voting for anyone as they are all the same.

There’s not much point sitting round a table when there’s no fucker sat on the other side.

Also the RMT has no affiliations to the Labour Party.

Swearing at us proves we’ve touched a nerve. It’s constantly the railways.
What's constantly the railways? We, the workers, are not responsible for the state of the railways. The government privatised the industry to make it 'competitive'. What that did was turn it from a public service with little investment from the government to a profit-based service with no incentive for investment from the owners.

The new private companies saw that it was cheaper to understaff the workforce and rely on overtime being worked. (A full compliment of staff that covers holidays, sickness etc costs a lot more in wages, training, uniform, pension and National Insurance contributions than overtime rates to fill in where necessary.)

With fewer staff spread between the railway companies, there became a wage spiral to attract workers to transfer from one understaffed company to another. During the thirty-odd years of privatisation, wages went up, and fares rose as the private companies all still wanted to make a profit. In most cases, large percentages of the TOCs (Train Operating Companies) are owned by companies external to this country and thus profits are leaving GB rail industry and supplementing the bottom lines of Deutsche Bahn or SNFC for example.

We are now faced with a railway industry facing huge customer demand but that wants to cut wages, reduce staff numbers and still increase their profits to the detriment of this country's infrastructure.

Then, whilst taking industrial action by refusing to work the voluntary overtime the TOCs desperately need us to do, or at great financial loss to ourselves we withhold our labour in protest at these unreasonable practices of our employers, we get people telling us that we are celebrities or are lazy. It is no wonder that nerves are touched.

Luddite? Do me a favour.

You’ve misread it. They’re striking despite providing a shit service. Station staff were unhelpful.

The unions don’t run the service. People going on strike and the company being unable to run a decent service when they’re not are two completely unrelated issues. I don’t know why you’re insisting on linking the two.

Is it true that somebody driving train earns less than an MP and can’t employ any family members at the tax payers expense?
What’s that got to do with the price of bread. It was a genuine question about salaries of train drivers as I have no idea.

29k? a fantastic wage?
II would say yes. My salary is £30k a year, has been for 3 years. I do another part time job to top up my income and work hard like others do.
I just get on with it, it's not just people in the public sector who are having financial difficulties.
Some of these fucking drivers are getting nearly £60k a year and still are not happy. Good grief!
Like I said yesterday and I hope this is resolved but to me some of these strikers like the attention and think they are special, they are fucking not.

Enjoying the race to the bottom are you?
You want to pull your finger out. Average private sector wage increases April to June are 8.2%
