Not sure if already posted but hes predicted to go 25th-30th pick

Here's his official NFL profile

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/menelik-watson?id=2540206" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/profiles/ ... id=2540206</a>

On that profile they have one of his strengths as being a 'powerful punch'. How is that a positive even in American Football? According to that website Luis Suarez would be a good player because he has a strong jaw reflex.
Linemen have to get their hands up fast and use a combination of leverage and strength to move their opponents as quickly as possible with a push either to the side, backwards, or both to the side and backwards. Having a powerful punch means you have the advantage in that initial push when you're attempting to move an aggressive, angry 300-pound man in a direction he's actively trying to resist.

I thought Teo may go there. But obviously the girlfriend business has hit him a bit.

Watson could come to us and I hope he does, but we shall see. If it was me, because Smith wanted far too much in FA

WHAT THE CHUFF!??
Nah. Teo's slow. That's why he fell.<br /><br />-- Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:24 am --<br /><br />

You are right, Dan; the worst team does get the first pick BUT they have the option to swap with another team. If the top draft is say a QB but they don't want one, they can swap with another team who might want a QB. I only mentioned QB as an example.

And another question (sorry to hijack the thread with my ignorance) who decides who the top draft pick is? I'm pretty sure a thread on 'who's the best player in the Premier League' ould throw up at least a dozen different suggestions for differing reasons so how is that person chosen!

NOW you are asking, Dan...................God knows but probably a panel of ' experts ' from College Football and an NFL panel.
The team making the pick decides based on potential and need. There is a cottage industry in making predictions about it, though.

Re: NFL Draft & Menelik Watson (City Related)

There is no 'best player in the draft' as it were. Its all about opinions.

Teams trade their picks according to their need. So for exmaple, in 2012 Washington REALLY REALLY needed a quaterback, however they did not have a high pick.

So the Inionapolis Colts went first and took the best (in their opinion) QB with was Andrew Luck.

The St. Louis Rams were supposed to have 2nd pick, but the Washington Redskins traded this pick off them. In return for the Rams picks, Washington gave them their first round pick's in 2012, 2013 and 2014!!

By doing this the Redskins were able to draft Robert Griffin III as their new (and much needed) quaterback.

The Rams got the Redskins pick in place, and this year (and again in 2014) got two first round picks thanks to Washington.

In the 2013 draft (last night) the Minesota Vikings traded away all their picks in rounds 2-7 to other teams so that they got three picks in the first round! CRAZY stuff.

It is complicated, but once you get your head around it, it really makes sense and is one of the key reasons that American Sport works so well. Its a level playing field. A team really can go from last to first.

The only equivalent in England would be if they flipped the prize money. The team finishing 92nd in the football league gets the most money with the team winning the Premier League getting the least. But lets face it, there is no fucking way thats ever going to happen.

Genuine thanks for answering my questions people. Although I really enjoy watching it on a Sunday evening and I have a team I 'support' it's always nice to learn more about the intricacies of the game!

He'll go in the first hour of tonights draft. With the Chargers, Giants and Bears all reaching big time on Olinemen, Watson will be better value for someone.

I reckon pretty average day all round for the NFL folk of BM. Perhaps the best night was had by weaver the Bronco who got Sly Williams at 28!

I've been a Dolphins fan since Dan Marino's rookie year (1983), and though I don't know much about Dion Jordan, he sounds an exciting prospect to me.

I'm pretty pleased we traded up to acquire him. And it's only cost us our first pick in the second round, besides our 12th pick in the first round, of course.

I'll ask my streetwise and wayward 17 year old daughter about the family , and the lad himself ...... the names of the people she doesn't know on the dog rough streets of Longsight could probably be written on the back of a postage stamp !

It's an extemely complex way of getting new players onto the teams each year. Basically, the lowest ranking team ( eg. Reading in the Premier League ) has first choice of the new/best players......BUT they can swap with another team for a another player so have the pick later on in the draft. The top draft might be a quaterback but the lowest rank team might feel they need to recruit in another postion so they might swap with another team who needs a QB more.

The idea is that it ' levels the playing field ' so, for this year Baltimore, who won the SuperBowl get the last choice....BUT another team may give up their draft and swap with Baltimore..........

Very simplistic way of explaining a very complex system.......

Thanks for that mate i THINK i understand. Just got to page 12 my head hurts i am off back to the Bale thread (-;

I thought I had a handle on how it worked UNTIL I read this explanation. I'd always got the worst team last ye to drop ar gets first pick of the rookies this year part but then he threw in that bit about the top draft pick might be a quarterback but they may not want a quarterback. I'd always assumed that getting first pick meant they just had a choice of anyone at all not just a specific person. Or have a I confused myself even more now?

Yes you can take any player you want but in that situation the consensus #1 and #2 players in that draft were QB's. The rams had drafted a QB with the #1 overall pick just 2 years before so they didn't need a QB. By trading the pick they were able to get the Redskins 1 rd picks this year and next year to drop from 2 to 6 last year. Makes more sense to get those extra picks and still get the guy they wanted as well.

Every team has a group of scouts just like with propper football. Each club might see certain players differently than others. Not every team runs the same type of offense and some players fit one system better than others. Some teams run a zone defense while others play man to man etc.. so they would rate players that fit their system higher. Some clubs rate offensive tackles as a premium position because they protect the QB's blind side. Other clubs feel they can get them later in the draft. Not unlike a club like Swansea wouldn't rate Andy Carol very high because of his skills but West ham would because they play more long ball.
Then ESPN etc.. have pundits like Mel Kiper, Todd McShay etc... who follow College football and specialize in the draft. They make their own draft boards and rate players and that's how the average public gets their information about what players might get drafted by what team.
