Are the rules different for a fair catch in the endzone then? In open field, the receiver puts an arm up and then just catches it without taking a knee. (Unless someone's sneakily changed the rules at me!)
 
By rule, he should have taken a knee to indicate he's giving himself up, or at least waved his arms. He kind of just held his arms out. In theory, it should/could have been a touchdown. This will be another rule that gets changed next season, similar to the PI challenge this year.

We go on about VAR but the NFL have some very subjective rules. There was an incident / catch in the Vikings game where if you asked 100 fans if he caught it they would say yes - but it was ruled out on the replay. He had it in one hand as he went to the ground and pushed the ball into the ground as he landed with his hand - then hit the ground and rolled and lost it as he rolled along. He clearly had it in the air and when he hit the ground!

Yeh, these can go either way. it's all about if you are deemed to be in control of the ball of not.

What made this one interesting is that he had it in the air and pushed it onto the ground as he landed, clearly in control of it. It was only when he rolled through the impact and after he had technically scored (hands / knees / feet / etc all on the ground) that it came out.
