The South West. Much cheaper than the south east, better weather than the north, low crime, nice villages, Bath is beautiful but expensive, nice people, relaxed lifestyle.

Get yourself a place in the countryside down there - more land, more bang for your buck, none of the modern day city problems like overpopulation, immigration, chavs, crime, terrorist threats etc.

Only problem - 400 mile round trip to the Etihad (nearly wrote Maine Road).

If your considering Yorkshire i would recommend Oakworth, a mile or so north of Haworth. Have friends there and it seems like a great place to live if you have a young family, low crime, lots of countryside for the outdoor life and train links into the cities around.

Knutsford or anywhere in that area. Bit expensive, but really nice and no too far to get to Eastlands :)

Shropshire in general is a place with low crime rates and full of nice villages and towns. Not much exciting going on but decent Schools in Church Stretton, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. The Cardiff to Manchester train line goes straight through stopping at the places mentioned as well as Wem and Whitchurch. Takes about hour and half to Manchester.

Stockport is very nice

Whitby. It's the nicest town in North Yorkshire by a mile. Low crime, friendly people, relatively cheap and a generally good place to live.

Forget Harrogate, it's too expensive.
