Nice nearby towns with pubs/restaurants

1st anniversary in a couple of weeks so want to book a night away less than an hour from Mcr. Fancied Hebden Bridge but struggling for accommodation in the town itself. Also considered Castleton but not sure there's enough going on there.

Just somewhere with nice views and a few pubs and places to eat.

Cheers
Hebden is good - see if you can get a hotel in Todmorden or Sowerby Bridge on the same train line

then you take your mrs up the funicular.

There are some lovely villages n Cheshire depending on how far you want to travel.

York is of course a special place to visit, but we're entering city territory there (and it's a fair distance).
The aforementioned Yorkshire towns are nice.

But....I've driven through some lovely spots in the Derbyshiure Peaks recently and Baslow looks like a lovely spot (thinking of sorting a day/weekend out there soon. It has the walks on its doorstep plus a hotel or two and pubs/restaurants:

And the Cavendish Hotel in Baslow:

Admittedly not been to either for over 20 years, but always thought both Halifax and Clitheroe were seriously underrated places.
Was at a wedding near clitheroe this weekend and stayed at an air bnb there and can confirm it’s a really lovely ribble valley town. Loads of pubs and restaurants and enough to keep someone going over a weekend. Some lovely walking areas as well all round that area.

My hometown of Stafford is good for town centre pubs, restaurants and hotels. And if you want some local leisure activities, there are some nice walks straight out into the countryside from town, as well as the nearby Cannock Chase.
Other than that, I'd recommend Chester, Buxton, Ashbourne, Nantwich and Shrewsbury.
What’s the name of the mock tudor-looking pub between the crown court and the station? Had a memorable afternoon in there years ago celebrating a ‘not guilty’ verdict, ended up drinking and having a laugh with my brief and a couple of good time Dorises from the jury

Not a town, but near a town

Amazing views, set in a woodland and quality pubs nearby.
Otley's nice & not far from Harrogate...now that's a good town with plenty of good bars, restaurants and great hotels all easy walking distance.
