Thought i'd check out Rodri's top speed for comparison. Speedsdb makes Gonzalez look positively Speedy compared to Rodri. I should add i have no interest in the accuracy or relevance of these numbers other than that they shouldn't be used to disparage a Rodri replacement.

Rodri - Top Speed 29.80 km/h
Gonzalez - Top Speed 31.50 km/h
That's kind of mad as I as a 30 year old with lazy as fuck amateur football training, no decent level muscle building to maximise speed and I hit just under 31km/h max speed. Couldn't last long doing that pace though mind you

not sure how accurate those numbers and like you say, doing that in sprint training and doing it consistently in a game are different things.

the other thing is, there's no way Rodri could be described as quick yet he just ran away with madrids balloon.

How often have you seen him play that it’s a bargain ?
Admittedly roughly 3 times, however we spent that amount on many other peices of turd players. This kid is CL expeirenced Barca product playing a position we desperately need. Good chance hes a success. Well worth the risk of 52m

Seems odd that we're happy to pay 33m for a defender who has played about 20 games in the French league, 29m for a Young Brazilian defender who has played a handful of games in that league, but we won't pay a release clause of 50m for a more experienced player with good stats in the Portuguese league. How much are we trying to get him for?

Is it the Porto goalkeeper where interested in ? maybe there's a bit of a deal being sorted to pay more for the goalie ? I feel more charges incoming :)

Another point and this is just me trying to get a grasp of transfer plan - there existed a player who has a similar profile to Rodri and whose family has connections to City - Dad worked for Pep yet it took us 30 days of January to start negotiations with him.

I am just a little intrigued by the timing.

The Arsenal way „ at least we tried „

According to speedsdb he has a top speed of top speed of 30,8 km/h and he has a top speed of 30,6 at the Euros. So that’s not really fast. So it depends a bit of which stats to trust. And if you actually read my post I said his acceleration doesn’t look great. So where’s your stats regarding that? But I am fine with you thinking kovacic is fast. But I don’t.
Where have I made any remarks about Kovacic speed ? I trust other peoples and stats ref Gonzalos speed. If he has a good engine on him and a brain that will do for me.

I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about this fella, and I trust the club to get the recruitment right as they mainly do, but I am concerned that this signing might not address our lack of physicality or ball winners in midfield.

Rodri is a freak of nature, ballon d'or winner for many reasons but also because he can seemingly be in two places at once. Very few come close to him. I think I was hoping we might sign someone to compliment him, maybe someone more defensive minded, that might allow Rodri to push up the pitch when they play together...

I guess what I'm saying is, hopefully Gonzalez will be a brilliant signing, but I worry about us being a soft touch, particularly when we come up against the shithouse European teams.
Do you mean this season with González or next with both Rodri and González?. Don’t forget Khusanov and that we still have Dias to return I’m not sure we’ll continue with our soft touch.

Exactly. Gareth Barry could barely run, but his positional sense and reading of the game was brilliant. That enabled him to a have a lengthy career.
I`ve always maintained that Gaz Baz was a very important and under rated player at City by a lot of our fans.
I remember when he was on his way to Everton and a mate of mine who`s a Toffee was shocked at how good a player he was with his reading and defensive work. He held his hand up and said he and plenty of Evertonians had a more positive outlook on his wonderful displays for them.

presume it comes down to agents and the cluases above, someone has probably said, i can get them to agree to less ya know? so city will let them have a go at that first.
