Absolutely this.

A position thats woefully deficient - and where we had 3 months advance warning as well. Yet here we are fannying about in the final hours - the sort of comical thing weve laughed at United for in the past 10 years.

Reports say he looks good in Porto but who knows what that means in PL with City. I think it's safe to say that if the club was very convinced about his ability he would have been here a month ago with City knowing the player really well and him having an affordable release clause. Us waiting until the very last day most likely means this is a last resort panic buy, otherwise we would have signed him earlier considering we are absolutely desperate for midfield reinforcements. He could still turn out to be a good signing but us waiting until the very last day tells me that the club had hopes of signing someone else.

Yes because getting the right players is easy. We should just have filled the squad with any old shite in a panic. Just like united.

And yet we managed to locate 2 raw kid centre halves from relative obscurity, which does suggest the club has quite an extensive scouting network.

I refuse to believe there are/were absolutely no hold or central midfielders we could make available to us in world football who would improve us, given our resources.

Either way we can continue to play the "nobody good enough is available" card, but in the interim theres some games coming up in February and early March that may be as uncomfortable to watch as yesterday afternoon was if we dont do something about the engine room in our team.

Or maybe the reason the club never signed anyone in the summer is they see him as the ideal player longer term and would rather wait till they could get him and use him with rodri, rather than spending money on just anyone. Like they did with Ruben for example, we were linked with him the summer before we signed him, but we waited, tried other targets, them went back in for him when the opportunity came up. We were linked with this guy previously as well, fwiw. Don't think that counts as a panic buy if it is a player the club have monitored so long.

And even if it is a panic buy, given the fucking panic on here, thought people would actually be happy!

No we didn't. Grealish has been a good player for us. Nunes will continue as a decent squad player. Phillips is a mistake,all teams make mistakes.Our hit rate is better than most maybe everyone.

We should have had the chosen target identified much sooner, completed all the negotiations in December and had them staying in Manchester for new years eve ready to sign on the 1st.
 
City very much need to put the finger out.
CFG is worth 5.5 million dollars, £10m won’t hurt, could well gain that back through better results

Not sure he's even right for what we need. Seems similar to Javi Garcia, who looked great in la Liga but wasn't up to the pace and power needed as a DM in the Premier League. The very fact we've waited so long must mean the recruitment team have similar doubts.
