Nicolas Otamendi - 2019/20 Performances

We will struggle to challenge for the title or champions league with our current defence. Otamendi is rash and caught out too often. Stones, although only back from injury, looked like he was wearing lead boots. The pair of them are far too slow and fragile for a team to challenge for trophies. With Rodri out we need Ferny to play in DM really. Throw Mendy in and how easy he gets turned and Anfield is a real worry already.

Hopefully Pep can sort the issue out. Against a better team our performance at the back on Tuesday could have cost us the game.

Anfield is a concern but Laporte will be back for the CL knockouts and there's a chance we'll buy someone in January... We won't be stuck with this defence the whole season by any means.

2 years ago mate yep I would love that Otamendi back in a heart beat our best defender that year. Sadly age has caught up with him and he's not good enough to play at this level anymore.

Mendy was fine at anfield last year he isnt the problem for us right now its our two main fit cbs.

The whole defence is a problem. Mendy was not solid on Tuesday night and whilst Palace didn't really test him he is still only just getting up to speed. Stones will take some time as well and Otamendi looks completely past it. As a whole the defence just looks all over the shop. It was only Palace's strange tactics that meant we looked comfortable. As soon as they pushed for a goal the chances came quite easily.

On a serious note, hopefully a match like last night can give his confidence a boost. I know many blues aren't happy with him at present but the reality is with our injuries and fixtures both piling up we're going to need to be able to count on him in the coming months.
