He says he is happy at city and still wont renew his contract....dont understand this
He was offered a contract when he first signed for us in January 2010. He's honoured his contract and has been excellent for us when he's played; if it weren't for Nigel's huge part in the final minutes against QPR we wouldn't have won the title. He loves being at City but sees his future away from us after his contract is finished. Good on him!

-- Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:40 am --

Time to sell Nige now, Razak will be better cover with promise of a better midfielder surely arriving too...
Razak is poor compared to Nigel.

At the end of the day if he is happy at city he should sign a new contract, doesnt mean he wont go to another club next summer...we either need him on a new contract or sell this summer, simple.

If he sees his future away from us after his contract is finished then why did he bother sitting down for negotiations on a new contract last summer?

Has no one ever been to see their boss about a pay rise? Was offered one but not enough for him to sign, that is life sometimes you win sometimes you don't. I bear no grudges with NDJ and I would expect him to be thoroughly professional in seeing out his contract.

Let's hope he is sold this window then. He isn't worth keeping for a year till his contract is out and then let go for free. Financially an awful move.

Both De Jong and Kolo seem positive to seeing out their contracts. While we might appreciate their inclusion in the squad next season, that deprives us of potentially £14million or so in revenue that we could reinvest in other players. So if De Jong won't accept terms, as much as I love him, we should be going balls out to sell him (along with Kolo) in this window IMO. We're going to end the summer window with next to no income at this rate besides a small sum for Weiss and Cunningham, this was supposed to be the window where we cleared out deadwood and contract rebels...

Could of been possible that we offered favourable terms. What it boils down to is that he wants to run his contract down with us. He is no use to us if he thinks that way.

Both of them are on good wages so unless they get a great offer they won't be inclined to move on this summer; De Jong wants to see out his contract and get good wages and a signing on fee somewhere else next summer with the added bonus of potentially more first team action, any club interested in is unlikely to give him a lump sum, and if they choose to make it part of the wages then they will squeeze us to accept a lower fee of perhaps 3-5 mil, we can't get a replacement for that cheap and anybody of simliar quality will want similar wages, in short better to keep him for the remainder of his contract. Kolo wants his last big contract so he has to either move for 2 or 3 mil max or go on a free, we might save on wages but an adequate replacement would probably cost at least 3 times as much in terms of fee.

A recent bit of transfer business, I could point to is Collins to West ham for 2.5m and Vlaar to Villa for 3.2M; Villa get a better, younger player for a small amount more than they sold collins for and they get an unsettled player of the books who would have run down his contract for nothing and whilst they have lost half the fee paid for him they got 3 years of service and they will probably make a saving in terms of wages. If we were looking to do a similar deal then we would be unable to to get players of similar quality to those coming in as to those outgoing, unless we use them to subsidise positive changes i.e better players coming in for between 10-25 mil rather than cheaper Veterans or journeymen then it is better to keep them for a year, even if we do stand to lose them for nothing.
