Could of been possibl we offered favourable terms. What it boils down to is that he wants to run his contract down with us. He is no use to us if he thinks that way.

and the day that Nigel de Jong does not give ALL in a game for Manchester City, whatever his contractual status, is the day that I come on here and say to you "good post" - that day is not going to come

This sounds cynical but but this is what I am thinking. All Nige would be doing is what Joey Barton did in his last season for us, apart from assaulting his own teammates.

if he wont sign he has to go its that simple

He is perfectly entitled to see his contract out. It's not as if he is doing an Ade, Nigel is still very useful to us.

Of course he is but no club is going to let a player valued circa 10 million go for fuck all in 12 months time especially in view of the FFFP

We can only keep him if we dont have a replacement which we currently dont but realistically we have to recoup some money and if another midfield player comes in Nige has to be sold

Buying and selling of players is part of the game - letting players see out there contract and fucking off on a free especially when they are worth decent money to whomever they want and collecting a big fuck off signing on fee because they are on a free is poor management especially those that are wirth decent money (some posters are slating our transfer policy on Weiss or Caicedo with good reason i think)

City and the owners aint a charity and it aint our money to write off

this was supposed to be the window where we cleared out deadwood and contract rebels...
We say that every summer and nothing ever happens.

True but it seemed so likely that Adebayor would join Spurs (and maybe he still will but much later than we thought), the signs were good for RSC going to Betis, and there was lots of rumoured interest in Kolo and De Jong... and nothing has happened, god knows what the 'team' (I won't say Marwood directly to avoid THAT argument again) have been doing every day all summer as no one of note has left (Weiss being the most high profile out for a pittance) and no one has joined despite Mancio's cry for new players. Where are the Chinese/Arab clubs, they are loaded and taking players like Gyan, Drogba, Anelka away on big wages so surely one can take Santa Cruz or Kolo off our hands.

Let him stay and see out his contract, I see no problem as long as he does the job he did last season, if he helps us to put another trophy in the cabinet i will give him a lift to the airport and carry his bags, he has been superb for city and we should not forget that, the alternative is for him to stay until new year then fire de Rossi in to the squad if we got him, whatever he does we should say good job nige thanks for the cup and league!

So where do you fraw the line - do you do the same for Aguero, Tevez, Lescott or just for selected players - there must be 50 million in those three players - we aint a charity and DJ is a decent player - like Le Arse are going to sell RvP like they sold Nasri we must sell DJ - we aint a charity and players that wont commit their future to the club must be sold regardless of whom they are

The FFFP complicate things even more we must generate cash from player sales

I agree in some aspects but I just think it would be better to keep him as I think city play better with him in the side, fetching him on at certain times of the game was a master stroke by bobby, just until we get someone in, I think we have a better opportunity of a trophy with nige in the squad, I understand where your coming from but a trophy is more important to keep the momentum going, the guy is like a destroyer !

But I think that's the whole point of selling someone like Nige, who won't sign a new contract - selling him not only gets his wages off the books but gives us money to reinvest in another midfielder, and there are better midfielders out there than Nige we could sign.

We currently have 6 players looking to see out their contracts (Adebayor, RSC, Bridge, Kolo, De Jong, M. Johnson) which is an absolute farce and crippling us in the transfer market. If all of those disappeared from the club tomorrow, that would save approximately £550,000/week in wages = £26.4million/year. Imagine what we could do with that sort of saved money both in helping with FFP and reinvesting a chunk of it into other players. We could take on two world class players and still have probably have nearly £250,000/week left over from what they are costing us.

All of them except Adebayor are out of contract next summer so if they do all cling on to the club I reckon we'll see major activity next summer.

Agree we have to keep DJ until someone comes in but if a player of a De Rossi standing came in it would be almost impossible to justify keeping DJ and letting him go on a free - you need to look at it from a numbers perspective which is what Khaldoon and Marwood will do

A De Rossi type player would cost 20 million (conservative) and selling DJ for 10 million would mean a De Rossi type person actually costs City 10M

Cant believe we would write off this much money

Buying and selling of players is part and parcel of the game and we have to manage this process - sad facts are Silva, Aguero and a few others wont fiinish their carrers here and we will have to sell them too (sadly) but clubs go on

Finding players who are available and better than what we have is not as easy as you imply

No it aint you are 100% correct

But the rags have been doing it for years, Fergie has been brilliant in putting together new successful teams (feel sick saying that) and keeping them competative and to be as successful as the rags we must also replicate this - we cannot keep selling players for next to nothing, putting them out on loan and subsidising their wages and letting players worth money leave for nothing.

With the money that would be freed, finding a better defender than Kolo and a better midfielder than De Jong would not be that hard at all. For example, freeing such a ridiculous amount of wages + receiving transfer fees for the likes of Ade, Nigel, and Kolo would allow City - if they chose - to meet Javi Martinez's buyout clause. Or pay £25million for De Rossi. Or tempt Juventus with a big money bid for Arturo Vidal. All are better midfielders than De Jong while there are others who have the potential to be who we could invest in for lower fees.

As for Kolo, it doesn't take a great amount of money to find a better defender than him because he isn't anything special anymore.
