Nigel Farage

He's not in Clacton? Colour me shocked

He'll at least be able to advise Steve the bin man from Clacton how he can pay less tax through various financial instruments sold by a city of London firm which are then routed via intermediaries to an off-shore tax haven... I'm sure that was the intention anyway...

No, no, no.
He is there protesting about tax evasion, as there is so much lost tax revenue we can't afford to manage machine guns on the cliffs of Dover and beaches in Folkestone

He is paving the way for his own downfall

I don't know. He's a cowardly racist, but clever enough to hide behind "just asking the question" weasel words. He's come away thinking he's won, and people who like him will think the same.

He's not as bonkers as Trump, but for the media, it's a similar phenomenon. With Trump, they just didn't know how to deal with someone who would lie all the time, and not care, because his supporters didn't care. It's similar with Farage. If your supporters believe they are being persecuted, and the "establishment" is hiding the truth, then he doesn't need to justify anything to them.

He'll certainly think that he's embedded his view more strongly - as you say, those who believe him think he's right. Every repetition comes down to reinforcing the thought, and that's the goal.

I've not seen/heard of this Lord Carlisle (?) report, but the rebuttal must surely be "no, you do not have a right to demand to be told who has been arrested. The police have the person in custody, and will make a statement in due course and may be able to answer questions. MPs should consider how questions are phrased for potential effect, but you know that and did it anyway."
